Looking to get into an Evo X

Hey guys so I currently have a 6mt G37 with some bolt ons and am some what getting bored of the car. I've always wanted an Evo X and I might looking to trade my car in soon to get one. To some light research my understanding is that the 4b11t can hold about 450 whp reliably. That's about where I want to be. What kind of parts do I need to achieve that power and what does something like that cost? $3000? Thanks

Is reliability any sort of concern? It's more about torque than horsepower. If you're looking for a straight line machine maybe you should check out a new Camaro SS. the Evo is an amazing car in the corners. You don't need tons of power to enjoy it.

Umm

You won't be able to hit 450 hp at the wheels without building the engine up you can get close to 400 with stock internals.Pricewise it depends on what parts you purchase if you DIY the install of those parts it will be alot less but you better have the time and the space to do those things.

So the motor can handle close to 400 whp? What can the trans and t case handle?

I have a stock block X running 91 octane with 403whp/340wtq Mustang = aprox 460/390 Dynojet. No reliability issues here.
I've seen 500+ Mustang dyno on stock block no problem, of course those are on E85.
My trans & T-case are happy & healthy.

i was debating the same thing

g37 or evo x.

g37 looks better (stock for stock) and sound better

g37 resale is kinda ****

evo has more potential. i chose evo because the road to 500 whp is short. and as long as tq is kept down can be stock block.

i still wish id have gotten a g37. best thing about an evo so far, is at any import meet, sans the gtr, nsx nk4 supra, you have the most coveted car. if none of those are there well... LOL.

lastly its impossible to be upside down on one.

I love my X. The stock block candle some power, it's all about the tune
The torque you want to keep below 400, however some have been running very strong with 400wtq. Like I said, all in the tune.

You can get 450whp without building the block, easily done. As stated above, E85 will be a big help if you decide to go that route. You will need every bolt on, fuel pump, injectors and picking the turbo is going to come down to some research. You will want to consider upgrading the cams as well when going bigger turbo. These motors really respond well to cams and will bring out more potential of your bigger turbo.

Pick who is going to do the work and tune on your car and ask them what they recommend.

Don't cheap out on parts either. Good luck with your journey.

This. Don't get me wrong, the Evo is fast - very fast. But its built to carve up corners like a boss, and that's what feels the most rewarding when driving the car.

First, an Evo is not too much more fun than a 5MT G37. If you get bored with a G37 with bolt-ons, you may get bored with an Evo quickly too.

Speaking of Evo X's power, I hate to admit it but currently the only tried and true reliable setup is the AMS STX500 package, which uses a GTX3076R(?) turbo and pulls about 430 whp and 340 wtq. The package costs ~9,000 USD and then ~5,000(?) USD for installation.

The magic of the package comes from its painstakingly perfected tune, which allows it to run an aftermarket turbo on stock blocks without breaking things. Many Evo owners hate the AMS for being unaffordable to them and come up with their own mod lists, but I have seen only a very small percentage of them achieving similar results with a reliable car.

Like people have said, if you like power, muscle cars are better deals for you. Evo's are not straight line cars.
