Shipping Euro Spec to US?

How hard would it be to import a Euro spec Evo IX or X to the US? I found one old thread asking about older V's and VI's but nothing on newer models. I am in the military and will be living in Germany for 3 years. I have been price shopping Evos in the area and would like to have it shipped back stateside with me when the time comes if possible. The old thread mentioned plenty of information on safety and emissions standards but I'm not sure if this still applies with newer models. I was under the impression that Germany had stricter emission standards then the US. Are the Euro spec cars similar enough to the USDM models in terms of safety and emissions to make it worth the effort? I won't know where I will be living stateside after Germany, so I have no way to look at specific state laws at this time. Obviously a close to stock car would be ideal in order to pass inspections. Been a long time lurker, close to ten years... Love this site and all the information it has! Hopefully I'll finally end up in my dream car before long.

I'm not sure what the benefits of importing a X would be (unless it's a FQ400), if it is even possible.

There have been many seizures by the government lately after cars have been imported here. I'd tread carefully.

I will be living in Germany for a minimum of three years then moving back to the states. I'm hoping to buy the Evo when I arrive in Germany and keep it for several years. If importing is not a option, I will just sell it prior to my move back to the US.

You can probably import it for track or show but you wouldn't be able to make it street legal. As Migs stated, plenty of seized older evo's sitting in impound lots.
