EVO X > What were your other options?
Good day everyone,
Hello from EVO 1-9 forums
!
My daily minivan crapped out and the evo is in the shop for the past 1+ months with an overhaul. It isn't near done but also like to get ready for a new daily driver.
I have been contemplating between Evo X and the S4. Must be 4 door AWD. Within 35k range.
There are obvious differences between the two cars and I've daily'd my previous evo but is a GSR far superior than a MR/SE? I just prefer it a slightly nicer ride than my current 8 for daily comfort and possibly dealing with TRI-State traffic.
I would love to know what your other options were and if you would have chosen differently now that you own an EVO X.
My 8 would turn to weekend warrior / track days.
Thank you for your comments.

I looked at Evo, STI, Focus RS, Golf R, Charger Scat pack, (Challenger, mustang, Camaro). Obs you said you need a 4 door which leaves out your last three.
Golf R was out almost immediately for me as i cant justify spending 40k on a golf. In one of the comparison tests that I saw shows that traction control is not fully defeatable.
The RS is way too much of an unknown and it is next to impossible to find one at a reasonable price.
Drove an Sti, it didnt feel as sharp as the evo and a friend of mine that owns own told me that they haven't changed the drivetrain since like 2004, that was out.
For me the only real call to make was between the scat pack charger and evo. Between the two the Evo was excellent in all aspects, wheras the charger was excellent in the acceleration and braking departments. 4200 lbs will never turn as good as an Evo. Evo does sacrifice some trunk space but i find it to be an excellent daily. MPG is reasonable if youre not hooning it all the time. I return low to mid 20s quite frequently. If you are going to be dealing with tri state traffic you're better off going with the stick. You will be able to handle the constant gear changing much better that the tc-sst imo. Plus you can still get some new for around your price range with full warranty if you're looking to stay stock. Paramus in NJ has a bunch is stock but idk how willing they are to haggle. I'm in CT and I went to Albany to pick up my FE. See link below

I've never driven the 8/9 but the X has such a god awful turn radius, I have to do 3-point turns just to park normal if there's cars on both sides >.>
I test drove the Golf R, BMW 335i, STI, new 4-door Cooper S, and the Focus ST when I bought my 2015 Evo. The BMW was the only car I liked as much as the Evo but the damn thing makes the Evo look like a Toyota reliability-wise.
I SWEAR TO GOD this is no joke. It the Evo 8 i literally couldn't do a u-turn without reversing to correct it and go forward again. The evo X is AMAZINGLY better. I'm 100% serious.

Evo for sure, the STI has a busted engine out of the box. The RS would be the best daily driver due to its quietness but it's hard to find one and you're not going to get a good deal on it. The reliability of the RS is also a large question it's just such a new car even our ST has lot of issues
My other options were a wrx, or a 370z(really not interested in too many of today's cars)
The WRX was too vanilla, too common for me (only considered because I wanted AWD)
The 370z was nice, but it was a 2 door....my last car was 4 door RWD. I think I'd be cramped in a 370z. I'm slightly cramped in the evo x. I wouldn't change tho.

Well, the 335xi wasn't nearly as engaging to drive as the base 335i. BWM just hasn't figured out AWD handling/steering yet.
But the 335 is prone to carbon buildup. High pressure fuel pump issues. Coil pack issues. I had a friend with one where the battery cable running from the trunk to the engine bay failed. Turbo issues on the earlier twin-turbo models. And so forth.

Reason why I am scared to jump ship is not feeling like I got the best bang for buck. An evo, especially the 8 and 9 are just outright fantastic. There are a few gripes but nothing that doesn't put a smile on my face harder getting thumbs up from lamborghini, ferrari etc owners. Even the younger guys yelling out their window I LOVE THAT CAR! It's not a panty dropper but it is rare to see the evo 8/9 in the wild. The X is a little long in the tooth and was released for almost a decade so its not as rare but rare enough to see a very clean well done example.
I am just hesitant because I would like a nice interior like an Audi S4 (more refined) but not lose the beast of an EVO without paying the price of a GTR.
Keep the comments coming. Make the EVO x an easier choice for me!
