Went to dealer for a noise, regret it

Update to this post, http://www.evoxforums.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=358265

Posted this on FB, figured I would share on here as well.

So I take my car to RC Mitsubishi in Deland, FL to DIAGNOSE a suspension noise I haven't been able to find. I wait for three hours and they tell me I'm going to need a new strut. My extended warranty covers it and they order it.

On the way home I noticed there's a lot of noise going on, similar to what I've been having but LOUDER. I figured they must have aggravated the noise since they found the source. Common sense kicks in and I get out of the car and push the wheel with my foot. To my surprise it moved in any direction I pushed it. I was just on the highway doing 75mph! I pop the hood and check and pictures is what I find. Now I see why they want me to get a new strut, they completely snapped the bolt and let me drive 35 minutes home like that. Anyone that has worked on cars knows that you FEEL when a bolt snaps on you, even with an Impact gun ( Which shouldn't be used on a strut to begin with) On top of that both strut mount covers are missing Unbelievable!!

This is only my 2nd time bringing the car to a dealership and I regret it big time. Question is did they find the noise or did they snap the stud and tell me it's that so that my insurance has to pay for it?!

I called them out on it, they gave me a rental and are going to tow it to the dealership once the shock is there, as well as replace both grease caps and waive my 100.00 deductible. My ext warranty is still being billed for the strut and labor though.

So they thought it was loose and tried to tighten it down with an impact. It snapped. Then they didn't even tell you about it? That's crazy.

While I agree that does suck, maybe it was an honest mistake, it sounds like they are trying to make it right though.

Making an honest mistake and breaking it is one thing. The broken piece had to have ended up somewhere. So allowing the customer to drive out on said broken part is inexcusable and negligent.

Glad they are trying to make it better, but this could have ended much worse

@ #6. Exactly. That's just wrong on their part.

I actually drove around like that for a week in a old e36 I have. Bushing fell apart. The right rear strut tower opening was damaged a bit. Also punched a hole through the rear speaker. Wasn't upset though since it's on beater detail.

It sounds like the dealer is trying to make it right, and there wasn't an accident so legal recourse probably isn't necessary. However I think a conversation with the service manager about how something like this could happen and what they are going to do to make sure this kind of thing doesn't happen again in the future is warranted. If you aren't satisfied with the outcome of that conversation a letter to corporate would be my next step. In my experience letters to corporate are taken pretty seriously and will be acted on.

Thanks for the advice I'll keep it in mind, they are picking the car up any minute now. Fingers crossed the tow truck doesn't damage anything to top it off.

I just bought my X there, the sales guy made a point to ask me to mark all 10's on a questionnaire I would be sent from Mitsu. So it sounds like their good standing with corporate is paramount to them, so if you have any other issues, going to or threatening with going to Mitsu direct would probably get the ball rolling.
