Charging System Service Required Light
Charging System Service Required Light
Hello EVOM,
My wife's 2011 Ralliart has the "charging system service required" light come on but on while driving on the highway. And she says it only happens while accelerating.
I check the battery voltage and its 12.9 when off and 14.2 when running. Everything seems to be operating normally. Car is 95% stock. Just has an intake and BOV. No aftermarket stereo or anything.
Any thoughts on what the issue could be? Anyone else ever have this light come on?
I've searched and it does not appear to be to common.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

It sounds like a alternator.
Sometimes they will produce the proper voltage at idle and once put on a load they will die.
Im sure it will fail a true alternator test at the dealer. With all loads on and raised rpm.
I.e blower on high, high beams on, radio. Then raise rpm to 3k see what voltage is there.

Changed the Alternator and it has appeared to have fixed the issue.
Side note, changing the alternator is a PITA. The A/C line is in the worst place ever.
If you have to change your alternator, go into it knowing you need to remove:
1) Passenger Wheel
2) A crap tone of plastic
3) Radiator fans
4) UICP
5) Upper radiator hose
