Braking System Service Required - 2011 Evo X
Hello all,
I just bought my 2011 Evo X in wicked white this afternoon. This is my first Evo, and am very interested in everything I get to learn. After spending most of my afternoon at the dealership, I finally got to drive off the lot and begin enjoying the car. As I drove off the lot, I took it easy on the car, varying RPM's, and just getting used to learning the car. I dropped by a friends house and showed him the car. When I started the car to leave his house, I put down the emergency brake and a warning appeared in the middle of the gauge cluster. It read "Braking System Service Required". Also, the red "Brake" light was still illuminated. I fiddled with it. Pulled it back up, put it back down. Shut off the car for a little and tried it again. Same problem. The car has 36 miles on it. What could it be? Just a sensor? It doesn't feel like it's grabbing at all. Would you still drive the car? I have to be to work early tomorrow, but don't want to ruin anything. I called the dealer, and have a service appointment tomorrow. Was just curious if this has happened to anybody else?
Thanks for any responses and please don't flame me. I'm new!

Yeah, I have seen the orange triangle that appears if a door stays open, or the trunk stays open. This is an exclamation mark with a circle around it. This morning, I put down the emergency brake and the warning and light went off. After work, same thing, all warnings and lights went off. Took it to the dealer and they said the warnings and lights need to be on to see what could be causing it. So, I guess I'll have to wait and hope it doesn't come on again!
The first 50 miles have been amazing!

Just wanted to give a little update. It's been about a month with the new X. She has been amazing. The Brake System Service Required light is still on however. I took it to Mitsu and they pulled the code and told me that they can obviously see the warning displayed, but when they pull a code, nothing comes up... I'm just very confused about the whole thing. When I start the car in the morning, it is fine. No light. But when I start the car at any other time the same day, the Brake System Service Required light is on as well as the actual brake light.
Has this problem happened with anybody else?
It's happened since I took ownership of the car at 7 miles.
Any other comments would be greatly appreciated!

Still happening...
So after about 2 and a half months, this problem is still occurring. I have been to the dealership 3 times now. They have looked it over and replaced the ETACS. That did not fix the problem.
This car has been nothing but nightmares.
Brand spanking new and so many problems.
This hasn't happened to anybody else? Really?

I have the same problem in 2010 evo x mr. Its been going on for the past 3k miles and i have about 16k miles total. No point in taking it to tha dealership because it doesnt stay on. Dont know what to do!!!! And im going to the track soon!
Have you checked the brake fluid level? It doesn't have to be very low to trigger the light, mine started doing this when my pads were worn down about 60%. Top it off and see if the light goes away. Maybe they just didn't put quite enough fluid in it at the factory.
Might have something to do with the brake itself. The brake might not be dis-engaging after you let down the e-brake. if anyone has tried to drive with the e-brake engaged, you will get the same warning. if you're driving with this problem then you'll definitely be burning through your brake pads and possibly end up warping your calipers. I would take a look at the brake pads and see if one is wearing more than the others, that would narrow your problem down to that brake. or it could be that the e-brake itself needs serviced.
Take it for a drive at night while the warning light is on and go on the highway for a short distance. Then pull over somewhere dark and check out your calipers to see if one or any are red hot.
I have a 2011 MR with almost 5k miles that I bought brand new and thats what I would do. But after dealing with it as long as you have I would have taken it back to the dealer and demanded a different car.
Please get back to us if you find the solution in case I experience the same problem. I took my Evo out of the country and I dont have a dealer to take it to for service.
Hope you get this fixed. I know what its like to have the joy of a new car and then have something go wrong with it.

UPDATE
After going to the dealer multiple times, roughly 5, they finally figured out what was wrong. There is a sensor in the master cylinder that was malfunctioning. They replaced the entire master cylinder and it fixed the problem on my evo. I had horrible luck with my car however and have since traded it in. I definitely got a lemon and am disappointed in spending the money I did on the car. For anybody that is having this problem, I would recommend first topping off your brake fluid, this fixes the problem 99% of the time. And like the poster above me said, the emergency brake may not be releasing all the way. I was told the sensor in master cylinder very very rarely fails.

I'm having a similar problem with my 2010 gsr. Every few weeks, the "brake system requires maintenance" warning comes on then goes away a few seconds later.
I believe I also got a Lemon car. My hydrolic pump failed 2 times in 1 month. Keep going to the dealer with one issue after the other.
I came to a conclusion that 2010 Evo X was just a poorly manufactured car. I know too many people having so many problems with them. It really sucks because it's the best car I've ever driven

Its a shame to see a thread like this. I wonder what other issues the OP had to cause him to trade it in.
Also (although I know old) I read the comment about getting a loaner car. Mitsu no longer does that anymore. I don't believe they had loaners in 2011. Atleast if they did they then lied to me about it.
