Used Evo X GSR with 52k miles for $23k .... ???

Ok, so i just checked out this used Evo x GSR this morning and it had 52k miles going for $23k. The engine was completely stock. There were paint chips noticeable. The radio was not working. The salesman said the dealership put in a new clutch, so on my test drive it felt like I was shifting an 18 wheeler. Uhhh, it said that it needed service, possibly due to the low tire pressure. The rims were rusted. The brake pads on the brembo brakes were worn out, well, the ones on the back 2 tires, but the front were a little visible. Also, the engine at idle kept revving up and down constantly with the A/C on full blast. Like from 0 to 1k RPMS, it would just rev up on its own, then go back down. It wasn't at a constant RPM.

If the car is still on the lot by next week, I might think of trading in my Genesis Coupe 3.8 for it. It's been giving me problems and I have fixed it. But that same problem is coming back. I am getting frustrated. I could keep up with it, but I am still running into the same problems. It is not paid off and I feel I will be losing money trading it in for this Evo. I want to take this Evo far, maybe around 500 WHP and reliable, beyond 100k miles. I see a engine rebuild or something, i don't know.

To be honest, I really think the price is a rip off for that many miles. 52k miles is a lot and I feel the previous owner may have ****ed up his clutch and maybe it went into the engine, i don't know. Let me know what you guys think. A little advice or input.

Thank you and I appreciate it.

Why would you be getting rid of a car you have that has problems only to get into that Evo X which sounds like it was not maintained well at all? Just doesn't seem to make sense. Seems like you would be trading one problem car for the next problem car.

Buying any used Evo is a gamble. The odds sound against you with this one.

I wouldt buy it. seems like the previous owner didnt take care of the car. who knows if he/she drove the car with a bad relay, spark plug chipped, fuel pressure regulator issues, etc... theres many things you need to look out on these evo's to stay clear of future issues. fixing a blown engine, transfer case, and transmission on these cars aint cheap. if you do atleast get a compression test, leakdown test, and a borescope done on the cylinders to see the condition on the pistons and cylinders. Goodluck

I'm going to see how much I can get for my Genesis since I'm doing a trade in. If I'm more in debt, I won't be hesitant to walk out. If it's at least 2-3k more, maybe, ... i don't know.

How far is Rosharon from Dallas? Why don't you check out the online inventory of Don Herring and then make a trip to their Irving location? To be honest, they are not a charitable organization, but you will get a fair deal and the owner Don Herring Jr is very active in the Evo community.

I got my 08 GSR for 23k OTD and it was sold with a bad clutch, but after much debate with the dealer, the final price for replacement of it was only about $500
My rims are good, breaks look good, and the paint is in ok shape. The good deals are out there!

I got my 13 from them. Overall it was a decent experience. My only complaint is that they told me one price for my trade-in, then when I drove the 400 miles, they low balled the trade. I talked to another member that they did the same to. It's a typical dealer move though. They figure most of the time the customer will just accept it as it cost them a few hundred dollars and time to get there. But their prices are fair.

But if you look at their current inventory most of the Evo's are MR's or base model GSR's. Not sure what options the OP would be looking for.

I'm closer to Houston, so maybe 4, 5 hour drive. Not bad ..... I wouldn't mind driving to Dallas, never been there. How is it compared to Houston?

Check out their website:

http://www.donherring.com/

They have 29 new Evo's and about 5 used. Overall I think they have pretty good prices for Texas Evo standards. Just be cautious for the low ball trade after you make that drive

I got unlucky. They "Didn't know" it was bad when they sold it. But literally 2 days after I got it. The clutch started slipping. Their mechanic said it had been abused over a long period of time based on the kind of flaking the clutch material did.

Do not buy IMO. Sounds like a headache and you will most likely have to replace a lot of parts.
