Tuning

Hello

How many hours should I expect for my local tuner to tune my evo x with basic bolt on?

My 2015 evo x

15,000 mile

- Ultimate racing cat back
- grimmspeed 3 port
- aem cold air intake
- ultimate racing test pipe
- ultimate racing upper intercooler pipe

Also how much should I expect from my tuner to tune an evo x with theee basic bolt on?
I asked them for an estimate but was just told that it depends on the complexity of the vehicle and it usually take a couple of hours.

A good tuner should be able to tune that setup on single fuel in under two hours, including strapping the car down, setting everything up, etc.

Be careful of people quoting tuning by the hour for basic setups.

Make sure you do your part before the tune. Do boost leak test to make sure your intake holds the boost your car is tuned to (I round up to next 5 psi to be safe). Also, clean & reoil your intake air filter, change your motor oil, and spark plugs.

Your tuner should have a base map to start with and adjust the tune specifically for your car on the dyno. You should be in and out quick. Tuning time could be faster than strapping and unstrapping your car from the dyno.

Consider an e-tune and learn along the way!

A couple hours sounds about right. And as mentioned above, do your homework and make sure the car is ready. Fresh oil/filter, plugs, clean air filter, make sure there are no boost leaks, no rats nest of a wiring mess, etc. Always remember, you can't tune out a mechanical problem. So make sure the car is as close to perfect as possible.

A stock injector, single map, Evo X should take <30 minutes. At the English Racing dyno day we just had in Vegas, 6 of the 12 cars were these very simple Evo X setups. All 6 of them were done in 3 pulls. It almost took longer to strap/unstrap the cars than it did to tune them. Aaron is a special kind of animal when it comes to tuning, but even a competent tuner shouldn't take much longer than hour to actually tune the car. If a shop doesn't have set rate pricing for tuning Evo's, you should probably use a different shop.

CBRD did my car in maybe 3-4 pulls max. What could take longer is that your temps may get hot and they have to take longer cool downs in between pulls.

Lol for real. Aaron did my car in like 4 pulls. Granted it was a very basic bolt on set up but the dude is a beast!

During MOD 2017 a tuner tuned a car on the dyno before the dyno contest

Car made 997/783

Yeah, when I went to CBRD my tune was 1-1.5hrs max. Can't remember how many pulls (was done in Feb); I remember at least 4. Set rate for tune and dyno.
