Post-Recall CMC leaking
Post-Recall CMC leaking
I have had the CMC recall performed on my 2013 Evo back in late 2013. recently, I got the "service brake system" warning under acceleration. I checked and my fluid was low. I had recently swapped out front rotors and verified I had closed all the bleed valves. Searching, I found fluid dripping down on the the subframe below the firewall. It had stripped the paint and there was some rust. definitely brake fluid. Looking up, it's coming from the CMC and it's leaking a bit inside the car too where the plunger goes into the cylinder body.
First, I wonder if anyone else has had a CMC fail after having the recall performed. second, I wonder if Mitsubishi would replace this, being as I am beyond warranty now because it appears to be the exact issue that the recall was performed for.

Yep my "replacement" was leaking, stock clutch, luckily only on the plunger side inside the car slightly. No stripped paint or rust. I didn't realize it was leaking until I went under there to yank it out when replacing it with the Magnus Evo 8/9 metal CMC. Which explains why the car has disengagement issues prior. Non adjustable, half blown POS CMC.
Skip Mitsubishi as you'll just be wasting your time. Buy the aftermarket upgrade, learn some new swear words (as you'll need them for the next step), suck it up, get under/in there and just replace it. And never look back. Once you're done, check the slave too - my original (granted 10 years old & 138k miles at the time) was sweating and leaking past the seal. Pull the boot back and check. If it's dry, leave it. If it's leaking, replace it. All new & upgraded hydraulic clutch components and line on mine, the clutch feels and transmission shifts better than ever.

That's what I was thinking. I'll have to just get the kit from MAP. IF the recall piece is breaking too, it's just a flawed design altogether with the plastic pieces. last night I was just under the car and that's when I noticed it. I did the TS exhaust hangers, AMS front engine mount, diff fluid and swapped on the snow tires/wheels. Sounds like I have another project coming up.
agreed on skipping the dealer...
my 08 had issues several times. stock broke.. aftermarket (2009) broke.. dealer warranty repair broke.. finally got the Magnus kit and been driving it since no issues
everytime the thing breaks, the car is stuck at that spot.. in the middle of freeway.. on some random street.. PITA to tow and repair..

With all due respect I disagree. If they messed it up during the replacement, it would've been an issue much sooner than 4 years later. More than likely the replacement unit was also not too much better than the factory unit
Just like mine.

Depends on the miles over the years, however with the leaking over time etc. I just feel a factory installed / authorized recall should hold up better / 100k is reasonable to expect. I do agree the aftermarket are 'better' however the stock replacement /recall should be sufficient for normal conditions. In the end yes probably better to have the aftermarket in either way.
