Another new EVO X driver here...
Hi everyone, I'd like to introduce myself here as a new Evo X driver/owner. 2015 Evo X GSR Manual
How I got into an Evo: My 2001 Acura MDX tranny finally died and it just wasn't worth it for me to repair it. I donated the car to charity and started a search for a lease transfer on a vehicle that had 12-16 months left on it. I knew I wanted to eventually get a project car, however I did need a car for "groceries, snow or if I wanted to drive somewhere with 4 adults." I stuck to a budget, found the Evo and it all worked out. I just got the car 3 days ago.
I've always loved modding cars since my first car (2000 Honda Civic Sedan Lx). I've always been one to modify cars for an aesthetic appeal when I was younger and as I got older, I appreciated the driving dynamics more and more. I've come to a point where I want to start on a "project car" in about 1 year from now (which is why I searched out a short term lease).
What I'm hoping for out of the Evo: I want to drive the car for the next year and see how I feel about it. I'd also like to get input, read up more and learn about the Evo X on the forums. If I really do like the car, I may buy it out at the end of the lease and start modding. My eventual goal is to have a project car that I can take out from time to time and have fun with.
If you guys know of any VLOG's or forum threads I should look at to start learning about the modding process on the EVO X, how to go about it, different options, etc... please point them out. I'd love to start learning and modding when/if the time is right.
Thanks in advance

Hi welcome to the money pit.... I suggest you save up to a certain budget you find not that aggressive to your wallet and do all basic small things that might generate a bad experience.
This cars have trouble with master clutch cylinder, you can get an evo 9 MC and adapter like Magnus.
Get a new Clutch...
Solve the fuel pump relay issue and plenty of little details like this one. Our Japanese friends didn't care to handle for us.
Check for latest Mitsubishi stealership reflashes and in the forum for basic problems on the X. See if they are solved in your version and try to invest in what usually fails in that production year.
If your are tuned by a pro with a couple of bolt ons youll be more than happy for a while at least until you save a bit more for more serious upgrades.
Stock Evo is a FUN car but for me is not a very fast car out of the factory. Aim for a pro tune asap. It will be faster after that so more fun indeed when you hit the gas.
Best of luck.

Well...after a couple of months Emon will tell us if its expensive or not.
Cheap to get a lot out of the car?
I dont agree with that sorry.
Youll have a blast driving it and you will justify every penny so have fun bro.

Right. Take a look at the tune section and see that with basic bolt ons and a tune you will push mid 300 to the wheels. But I guess cheap is a subjective thing. I'm pushing 340whp with ets intake, exhaust, ebcs, and tune. Maybe a grand all in. That's expensive?

Thanks for this advice. I'll certainly be reading up on common failures and solutions here on the forums. So far after driving the car about 2 weeks, I think the mods that I need to do right away are:
1) backup camera (The rear wing ruins visibility and I've got a tight fit in my garage, so that will be helpful)
2) new seats. I absolutely hate the stock seats we have and hate that Mitsubishi decided to cheap out and not offer recaro's
Trending Topics
As previously mentioned - some weak points you might want to be prepared to address in the future are:
1) Clutch master cylinder - replace with Magnus Evo9 conversion kit
2) Throwout bearing lock ring - replace with ACT Monoloc
By 2015 they had caught and fixed almost all the problems that plagued the eaerlier ones like the sticky fuel pump relay, weak timing chain, and problematic AYC pump. Overall it's a pretty solid car that will do what you ask of it without complaining too much. Definitely replace those seats.
