Evo X Manual Enquiry

Hi everyone,

This is actually my first time posting here and I would like some advice from experts and evo owners who have knowledgable experience. I always wanted an evo however the actual thought of purchasing one only hit me a year ago and so far I’ve been doing some research in my spare time. I am in Sydney Australia and originally wanted an 8mr but recently the X has really grown on me. Whilst searching, I found a 2008 evo X gsr manual located in Adelaide with 124000kms on it, with an Invidia cat back, K&N pod filter, a tune and coil overs for $27000AUD. The car seems to be in outstanding condition with hardly any flaws. I would like to point out that I came across this evo AD when it was a private seller and now it is being sold at a dealership which specialises in Japanese cars.

Now my question is:
- Is it okay to purchase an evo X with considerably high kms on it with some basic bolt ons?
- What procedures should I undertake when I’m ready to purchase the vehicle? Obviously I will make the flight over and have a look and test drive, but what other precautions would you recommend and are there any added risks when purchasing from a dealership or from another state for that matter?
- Is it correct to get additional services out of the dealership eg. extended warranty and such?

I have never purchased a car alone and I do feel that I would get sold easily if I don’t know what I’m doing.

I plan on daily driving this vehicle (20000kms a year) whilst having fun occasionally on back roads but don’t plan to track it. I would like to take it to around 250kw atw. Oh and I am quite fussy with the condition of the car I drive right now, so I will maintain this evo the best I can. I do plan on keeping it for as long as I can.

Any help/comment is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

While it could be solid, I would rather, if I were you, save up a bit and get a 2013/2014 model so it's newer, has the improvements done since the 2008 such as the revised timing chain, and is just a much newer platform to take on in 2019 or beyond. If you're set on this one - get a compression and leakdown test and test drive before committing. Car should have zero check engine lights, and should pull smooth all the way to redline if tuned properly.

Good luck with your choice!

Thanks for you advice and opinion, I really appreciate it. As you’ve said, I think it would be wise to save up a little more and look into it further as I’ve only recently got into the X. Any other thoughts or even disagreements, please let me know!!
