Evo x gsr turning over but not starting

Hi I went through every car not starting thread before I created this one. Here is my problem:

I went to start my car in the garage this cold morning in Colorado, and it would not start. It turns over sort of sluggishly most of the time with the occasional normal turn over like it is about to start but never does. From the sluggish turn overs of the starter motor, I thought for sure it was a bad battery. I brought it to AutoZone and the tester said it was "good". It was at 90% charge, but can the testers tell if it is putting out enough cranking amps? After going through all the threads, one popular fix was the ignition relay. Others stated that the engine can get flooded which would lead to the engine turning over but not starting. I removed the ignition relay and tried to start but that didn't work either. I tried starting the evo x gsr with the pedal to the floor because apparently that cuts off fuel and that almost got it started but no luck. I checked the ignition coil, ENG/POWER, and alternator fuses but those all checked out. My garage smelt of fuel after these starting attempts. Any other ideas before I have to take it in?

Did you already swap these out on your car? Not sure what year you have -

That's a known issue.

Yep. Definitely could be.
Here they are on MAP's website: https://www.maperformance.com/collec...tsubishi-evo-x
And MAP has the TSB attached there as well: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/08...27926417138157

There are so many things that could cause that to happen but start with the basics, oxygen, heat and fuel. Sounds like you have air going into the engine so next check the spark plugs to see if you're getting spark when cranking. Then check your fuel system. Is your car stock? Injectors and fuel pump working?

Mine is the 2013 so it doesn't seem to be the 09-10 affected vehicle. I'll certainly replace all these relays tho. Would a bad relay cause the car to crank slowly?

I'm not sure, but I do know that my tuner goes through those things like candy. Even had them replaced on my 2014 when I had it at some point, so I'd start there then get more complicated.

I would check the starter, and your crank sensor. Seems like your not getting spark.

Well I had everything checked at a shop. It is getting fuel and spark. They said everything mechanically is working properly and the computer says nothing is wrong. The engine was flooded but they dried it out and it still wouldn't start. The shop couldn't figure it out. Getting it towed to either my evo tuner Tobzperformance or the mitsubishi dealership.

Well took it to the dealer and it was a flooding problem. Unfortunately holding the pedal to the ground or removing the injector relay to start didn't work. Too flooded. Even the shop dried it up and couldn't start it, but apparantly the spark plugs were pretty old so maybe they were too weak to start a flooded engine. I'm hoping there isn't a problem with my injectors. I think i flooded it by starting it, moving it out of my drive way, and then turning it off right away at least that is what i read. Not sure. I just had it tuned recently so I'm hoping that the tune is still good and thats not the reason extra fuel is pumping in at start.

Cool you're on the path to a fix, but that is a very odd problem to have with such a modern car. Who tuned the car / what are the modifications?

I would talk to the tuner if it’s not starting. What if he tweaked something and threw it off so it’s not starting🧐

I dont mean to thread jack our anything but I've been looking to see which relays were indeed the actual updated ones and just want to thank you guys for answering the question here. I will note that MAP sells their kit with three orange pieces and one grey piece (four total) while kozmic sells theirs with four orange and one grey (five total). For the OP, any progress on the car?

I am going through buying new relays for my Evo too. It looks like the 1 additional relay is for earlier Evos that had an older part number that needed replacing.

I am having the same problem! Crank no-start. Relays are all new so it’s not that. Cranks good, I hear fuel pump turn on. Engine position sensors seem to be working based on Cobb logs.

The flooding issue is a possibility since I turned the car on and off again within 10 seconds right before the problem occurred. Will try and turn the car over with fuel relay pulled to evacuate cylinders maybe?

The only other symptom I have is a really loud buzzing throttle body (still stock TB). I think stock there is a faint buzz to them but mine is very loud, can hear it from the car. I have a used spare I will swap out to see if that is the issue. Otherwise I am at a loss.
