I know exhausts and springs have no doubt been done to death here, but I'm just getting round to these mods. I had new Excalibur's fitted from Italy, Toyo Proxes Sports and Eibach Pro Kit. I feel like I may have blundered with the Eibach's. Has any one here had issue's with "bottoming out" the springs and or damaging the suspension? I know the FQ400 was equipped with them in the UK so cant understand why they would be fitted if it was going to cause problems later.
Secondly, exhausts. Any one here have or know of any info/reviews of the Ralliart Sport Exhaust from Japanparts.com? I have no idea what this sounds like and have poured over threads on here. All date back to 2009. The exhaust is the last item to finish the car off. Alternatives are HKS Legimax or Cobb. The car is still under warranty so only cat back or axel backs are an option.
Thanks in advance and I don't mean to re hash over old topics.
So, next question. What springs are a good alternative that will not need the struts and shocks being re valved? Would swift R be a better alternative? And if I need to get this done, who is best to do the work? English Racing would be a logical choice but they are a LONG way away from Seattle.
Since you kind of spare no expense, I'd look into Ohlins. I saw too many people get XYZ spring, then finally get the Ohlins and were like 'I wish I would have gotten these to begin with'
If I still had my EVO those are what I would have gone with...
Exhaust wise I wish Sakura was still around - the Sakura street exhaust was phenomenal sounding and was on my car when I sold it. Of the options you listed, I like the Cobb the best
I checked the link.. that is just pure pornography.. Ohlins has always had a top flight name in the business. I have spared no expense up till now. The issue is keeping the car near stock. They come factory with Eibach, so I thought swap Eibach for Eibach, just a little lower. Getting revalved Bilstiens is doable, but being with out the car for weeks while this done is not an option.
I daily this car with no track. I'm going to call the Eibach Rep tomorrow and get more information as well as English Racing. Maybe Im just over thinking this and worrying too much. This is such a great car and I have taken excellent care up till now. I just don't want to screw it up with the suspension business.
The Cobb exhausts are nice. I listened to the sound bites. I like the idea of the Ralliart as it's technically still Mitsubishi. But to my knowledge I don't know of any one in the continental US that has actually bought one into the country.
Yea the most expensive exhaust I've seen is the Akropovic.
Hard to go wrong with anything from Cobb, AMS, ETS, and the like. I haven't seen anyone with the Ralliart exhaust. I also haven't seen too many people with the HKS exhaust since 2008-2011. If i remember right, the exhaust is a little smaller than most competitors. It's nice, just slightly more restrictive.
The springs should be fine. Lots of people have run them with no issues. Any spring will probably have the same wear on the rest of the suspension. Re-valving would work. But the Ohlins are really nice.
I rode in a stock akropovik exhaust car - it was very underwhelming. If you're doing an Akropovik you need to get massive power for it to sound cool at all.
Don't see logic in going Eibach to Eiback, also I believe in the MR it has slightly different than Eibach, I thought it was McPherson on the MR and Eibach on the GSR? Either way, really research the Ohlins - read people that changed to them from other setups and never looked back. I read a ton when on that track, and the Ohlins are seriously worth considering imo.

You might be thinking of Bilstein brand struts for the MR and KYB brand struts for the GSR.
Ohlins do ride incredibly good but cost wise they are total overkill for only street use, but if you want to spend the cash on them, they are great. I love mine.

Thanks! I knew I was a bit fuzzy on the specifics between the two. Sad I never got to drive an EVO with the Ohlins on there! lol

To get them revelaved you'd be out of a car for a few weeks while Bilstien revalved them. You are probably overthinking it though. It's not like your car is slammed. As for exhaust. Since you live in the Northwest, I'd give Michael at ETS a call and see if they have any blemished Evo 10 exhaust.in stock.
Thanks guys. I did just check my stat list on the car. Razor is correct. Even I was second guessing my self last night.
I called the UK this morning to get more info on the Eibach/Bilstien set up with the FQ400. Spoke to a tech at the Colt Car Company (Mitsubishi Dealership) in Cirencester. According to
Simon Kent the Bilsteins fitted to the FQ400s came direct from the factory with no revalving done what so ever. The Eibach's are indeed the pro kit's that were fitted to each car. So that answers that.
I don't want to mess with the suspension any more. Mike at the dealership went all out for me doing the work along with fitting the new wheels, swapping over sensors, finding new black torque bolts as the stock bolts would not fit in the drilled holes. Rebalancing, alignment and refitting one of the side air damns that had gotten hit a few days before.
It was intense getting the wheels in through customs. That was a two days, involving frantic emails from Arcasting, the shipping company and me panicking to find an import broker to clear the pallet in time before they started charging storage fees at the airport. I had to supply the airway bill, fill out DOT forms, supply the original invoice, plus my company documentation and tax ID then scan every thing over before the end of the second day. The Italians were not clear on this when I placed the order weeks ago.
Ohlins... It's tempting. I have spent the best part of a year purchasing and working on this car to get to where I am happy with the final rendition. There has to be cut off point right?
I'll add the vortex generator I got from Ross UK, add an exhaust, then call it a day. I need to get back to life.
Thanks JDZ. I will look them up tomorrow. Another friend also recommended ETS.
If you don't like loud, I would like elsewhere. Even the "quiet" ETS is pretty loud.
Magnaflow isn't so bad in just catback form. Greddy SP Elite isn't so bad.
If you are just looking for performance and don't want *anything* loud, I would keep the OEM catback and just upgrade the cat section. The OEM catback flows pretty well. I've run 400whp through it with no issues.
Napalm! Stop! I know what I said, and I have done the very best with what I have. AND... more importantly I am attempting to keep this as stock/OEM as possible. I know the Ohlins are superb. But I have brake rotor/pad change out's coming up. The OEM's have lasted 32,000 miles. On the next oil change it's the next concern.
Razor, what are your thoughts on pads. All OEM Brembo front rotors and pads as you know are going to be $4,800. And that's not from the dealer.
I'm going with Ferrodo 2500 pads as Mitsubishi use them any way, correct? As for Rotors, what do you guys think about Stop Tech slotted Twin Floating Rotors ($980) and slotted rear? I did see Brembo rear slotted :
