Boot leaking grease?

Hey everyone,
Newish evo x owner here and after really going over the car I noticed this leak. Can you help me identify what I'm seeing here and proper fix?

Thanks!

CV Axle boot. You can get a boot kit and DIY (plenty of generic YouTube videos on how-to) or you can get a remanufactured axle. To do it right, you'll need a special set of pliers to pinch the clamps tight but it's still cheaper than a reman axle.

The small clamp just needs replaced. I do this all the time. You don't even have to take the axle out of the car. The stock clamp isn't tight enough and eventually leaks as pictured.

Yep. Very common problem. Quick and cheap fix though!

This is the clamp kit, don't worry its the correct part number, the picture is just wrong.

These are the pliers I have/use-

You just use the small clamp out of the kit to replace the small clamps on your axle. To do the inner boot on all 4 axles you need 4 clamp kits. I would do this now because they all eventually leak.

Yes extremely common on these cars. As others stated, just replace the clamps and you're all good. The CV shafts themselves are good and strong, I have over 160k miles on my stock shafts, just with new clamps tightened nice.

Hey guys,

Sorry to revive this old post but now after less than a year later my CV axles are clicking. Would this warrant buying new axles or should I pull them apart, clean them and regrease?

They are clicking when I make a sharp turn. I am now realizing it's probably not a good idea to lock out my wheel to make a sharp turn and this may have been what caused them to fail.

How many miles on them? That would feed into my decision making as getting new axles maybe the way go?

The evo just hit 88000 miles. I am the 2nd owner and guessing they are the original axles.

Simply reinstall the clamps, and you're ready to go. The CV shafts themselves are robust and sturdy; I have over 160k miles on my stock shafts, which have been tightened nicely with new clamps.

Thanks! I ended up rebuilding them with the oem kits. Wasn't too bad and a great learning experience.

Nice one, always good to see someone find the solution through the forum!

What type of grease did you end up using to pack the cv joints?
