Headlights

So I have a base model GSR that has halogen headlights. I am wanting to switch over to the factory HIDs. I appears that HID headlights are a direct plug and play. So my question is I am wanting to go with HID that i can plug the headlight leveling switch into the use that feature. It already appears where the covers for where the switch goes in the interiors the harness for level adjusting is there the switch isnt hooked up.
So im wondering if there is a difference between SSS headlight that are capable of level adjusting and the normal factory projector lense, or are all the evo x factory projector headlights the same and have the capability for the level adjusting?
Any help is appreciated.

They are direct plug and play, but there some differences in the HID harness pins. When you have the HIDs plugged into an halogen harness, the DRLs will flicker since there isn't enough power being supplied to the ballast. The wiring harness for the halogens doesn't have a connector for the leveling switch at the headlights. You would have to wire them manually I believe.

Ok that makes sense. My next question is since I bought my car used and it has the halogen headlights, it already appears the previous owner disabled the DRL's in some way. They also have HID bulbs installed in the non projector housings. So since the DRL's are already disabled I should be able to buy a set of stock projector housings and plug and play them. I also should have an issue with flickering since the DRL's are already disabled correct?
And if this is indeed the case when I get the projector housings with HID's I should be able to get rid of the after market HID's, and blast's that are current in the car because the factory HID headlights come with a ballast and everything is plug and play right?

If they're already disabled it's likely that the previous owner had them disabled through an ETACS decoder. Once it's disabled, it will stay off until the same software is used to turn them on again. You shouldn't have any issues with flickering when you install your projector housings with HID's. Yes, you can get rid of the aftermarket ballasts and HID's and swap in the factory projects without any issues.

Ok thank you. Last question I don't suppose there's a way to have HID's and DRL's and not have the flickering issue is there?

You'd have to change the headlight settings in ETACS decoder to 'projector type', basically this would just leave your projector beams on as your DRLs.

Make sure the previous owner disabled DRL's through ETACS, not just by running a relay kit for aftermarket HID's. If the latter, all that will be coming out when you install the OEM HID projectors and you'll have flickering.

There's ways to disable the DRL through ETACS, as well as switch it from the halogen DRL to the OEM HID DRL which uses a different bulb if you wish to retain DRL's on the new lights. I personally disabled mine completely when I did the switch, I prefer the clean look. As for the leveling switch, it's plug & play. No need to wire anything, the wiring is all behind the dash you just need to plug the OEM switch in and it works.

You need a dealership/MUT tool to modify ETACS settings. Be nice to the dealer people since they won't always agree to do it for you.

etacs
coding
option coding
change drl function to not present

Ok once the headlights are installed and everything is squared away where do you aim the headlights in correlation to the number on the switch?

You can do that through the ETACS decoder program that you can download if you have a laptop and a Tactrix cable.

Aim them as you normally would aim a projector headlight. You would aim them with the switch set to 0.

Switch position 0- Driver only/Driver + 1 front passenger
Switch position 1- 5 passengers (including driver)
Switch position 2- 5 passengers (including driver) + Full luggage loading
Switch position 3- Driver + Full luggage loading

Ok my tactix cable came in and I connected with the Etacs Decoder. I looked through the DRL settings. I see 2 or 3. They are both set to not present. This should indicate that the previous owner disabled them through a decoder as mentioned before correct? If this is indeed the case when my HID lights come I should be able to install them and there should be no flickering correct? Also I didn't see an option to switch from halogen to HID in the etacs setttings. I looked through all of them. Any ideas?
