Short belt anyone?
Short belt anyone?
Seized alternator. 2013 GSR.
Looks like a short belt could be used to temporarily bypass the alternator (and p/s oil pump idler) or bypass both the alternator and a/c pulleys to make the car driveable prior to repairs. Can anyone recommend a belt length that will work for this purpose? I do have a couple of shorter belts on hand from other cars that may put me in the ballpark, but kind of a pain to work out belt length by trial and error. Any racers out there running short belts?

How far are you trying to go? You aren't making it too far on battery power, so if youre just moving the car out of the garage or something, leave the belt off and don't run it long enough to overheat.
Narrowing it down a bit. Of the belts that I have on hand, so far I've tried one that is too short: 25-060845 and one that is too long: 25-060919. Also tried a K060860 which is also too short. Something in the 880-900 range should be close for bypassing the alternator (and p/s oil pump idler). Not ready to buy a belt just yet.

I picked up a Driveworks 885K6 (or 6PK2250) belt from Advance Auto for $21.29 for testing. It fits fine with reasonable tension while bypassing the alternator (and p/s oil pump idler). Anything in the 882-886 range should work reasonably well with a little more or less tension.
Now I just have to deal with the seized alternator (and keeping the battery charged). I'm going to try and break it loose once I get my hands on an OAP/OAD tool.

Hi!
I'm going to make it a little more specific. So far, I've tested one that's too short: 25-060845, and one that's too long: 25-060919, from the belts I have on hand. A K060860 was also tested, but it was too short. For bypassing the alternator (and p/s oil pump idler), something in the 880-900 range should suffice. I'm not quite ready to purchase a belt just yet.
