Boost Leak Test

Hi everyone,

I'm planning on getting a new tune soon and the tuner wanted me to do a boost leak test prior. I bought this from Amazon -
Turbo Boost Leak Tester Turbo Boost Leak Tester
. I attached the boost leak tester to my intake inlet and removed my oil cap on the engine which is recommended from what I read. When I started to add pressure to the car, it just felt like the air was coming out of the oil fill hole, and no pressure was building up after 20-30 seconds of adding air slowly.

Am I doing something wrong here? Does this seem right? Thanks!

You should attach it directly to the turbo.

Unfortunately the turbo is in a bad spot I cannot get to. Otherwise, I would’ve did this initially. I’ll take another look but it might not be an option.

Is it the stock turbo? If you remove the entire intake, leaving the recirc valve, you should have enough room. You might have better access modifying this tester. This is the one I made for my 10.

I'm not on the stock turbo. I have a BorgWarner 7163 with a custom manifold and downpipe from CBRD. The turbo sits pretty low. Here's a pic of where the turbo sits in the engine bay:

Guess I'll see how bad I want to get to the turbo and do the test

Yea, you aren't going to get an accurate result hooking up to the intake pipe, as the pressure will just go through the PCV hose.

Thanks for the sanity check. Will report back once I get access to the turbo.
