Homelink on EVO?

Got my car Monday and love it but was dismayed that the car has no homelink on the rearview mirror. I hate having garage door openers on the visor and even my fiancee's $16K Scion has this option. Does Mitsu offer something like this for the EVO? TIA

I too was dismayed today when I stopped in the dealership for the first time today and saw it was missing homelink. I guess the only option is an aftermarket mirror.

i purchased Chamberlain Wireless Keyless Entry System from Home Depot and mounted it under the dash. It has a 4digit security code. If the car is broken into....they cannot get into the garage.....

much safer than leaving an extra garage remote in the car....

In my S2000 I just wired my garage door opener into the high beams and tucked the remote into the fender. It is really easy to do if you remote is 12v, just splice it into the headlight wires for power. Then you just have to figure out where the switch circuit is on the circuit board and solder a wire connecting the two sides of the switch. Basically just making it so whenever it has power the switch is triggered. Then just flash your high beams to open your garage door.

Here's the instructions I used:

Has anyone checked out these auto-dimming rearview mirrors with HomeLink inclcuded:

Unfortunately it's only available through dealers, but the company said that a dealer only had to make a small commitment. I may approach my local stereo installer for this when I get an Evo this fall.

My Scion tC had this added on at the dealership (autodimming mirror with homelink). I wonder if you could just buy the scion mirror and have it installed? Likely the mount will be different, but I'm sure that could be taken care of. There's 12v in the dome light to power the mirror.

Looks like you can buy them for $150. I actually had one lying around already with the V1 display built into it. I had no idea it would work on the EVO. Kick ars. Just have to wire it up and I'm ready to go.

Not much to it. pops on and then just run wires to the fusebox and hook up the ground constant and switched power. Voila done. Programmed it today and it is working perfectly. Very easy job.

Has anyone tried this on their evo? I think I might try it tonight but I figured I would see if anyone has pictures or advice first.

Did it pop onto the existing windshield spot or did you put on the new mount?

Which one did you use (the one from the Scion?)

Thanks!

Pops onto exisiting mount but you do have to tighten down the locking screw with a torx. The one I had was from a 350Z but they are all universal.

that's pretty slick! I spliced into my cig lighter before so no power unless you turn it on. But i added a button as well. I like the high beam idea, very clean!

I got mine from this ebay seller Wembly Sells

I got the Gentex 50-GENK41A which is auto-dimming and has homelink.

Just like the other people posting here, it was pretty easy to install. Just mount the mirror using the existing wedge mount, run the wires to the fuse box, use a test light to find a constant and switched power source, use the supplied wire taps, and connect the ground using the fuse box mounting fastener.
