Just put mine in the other day... I have to say it doesn't look ALL THAT bad, but it does almost completely take away the 'mean' factor on the front end...
I went a solid 10 months before anyone said anything about not having a front plate and it was great.

About the issue of cable ties weakening over time, the thing to do is to get military spec tie wraps, for example ...

As well as the material being UV resistant, the little tab in the socket is metal not plastic, so the wrap is much less likely to get loose over time.
Still have some of the 30" tie wraps left over from my racing days. Amazing what repairs you can make with tie-wraps and "racing" tape (colored duct tape). The smart guys picked a good brand of racing tape first, then color-matched the car paint.

I just took mine off 15 minutes ago. Instead of weather stripping, I used the soft side of velcro on the back of the bracket. I really like the zip-tie option instead of the side-mounted plate. I do need to find longer zip ties though... btw unless you're buying super cheap zip-ties, they're gonna be UV resistant.

After about a month of having my front plate zip tied to the bumper, it's a little loose but definitely nothing close to falling off.
My only real concerns at this point are the little scratches left by the zip ties on the plastic. Probably going to add a lot more weather stripping this time around.

it's a good idea, and I thought about it, but i've used ties outside of a car before and they'll break after a while... they just start to dry out and break. I'm actually making a custom license plate using a few pieces of steel and some bolts that are already under the car... i'll post some pics when I get it finished.

I did mine in vinyl and it was only $20
Just go to your local vinyl shop and ask them
If they can do that, they just scan the plate and
Print on special reflective paper
