My CAI With custom heat shroud

Here is a pic of my CAI with an aluminum heat shroud. I made the shroud out of thin sheet allum from LOWE's The intake was made using all SPECTRE stuff from AUTOZONE. The parts for the Intake were (1) 3'' coupling, (1) 12x3" tube and a Spectre cone filter. It cost about $45 here in filthy NJ.

The heat shroud was made from a $25 sheet of aluminum from Lowes.( The sheet i bought can make about 10 of these shrouds. It leaves room for error.) I used cardboard as my template then traced it to the metal and cut it with utility shears. I used a Dremel cut-off wheel to get a clean cut on the opening for the factory CAI tube. I then bent the bottom piece and top piece and riveted them together. it is a 2 piece design and weighs about 7 ounces.

I used the 12" tube to keep the head away from the filter. It seems to work very well, and only cost me $70, 30min of labor and an ice cold 6 pack of GUINESS bottles.

I hope this helps everyone out there. Why pay so much for so little from some of these companies selling CAI's

Thank you. I agree with you on testing for AIT's . It has stopped the car from stalling when the hot air blows from the cooling fans directly into the path of just the filter attched to the MAF without the shroud. Its the best i could do with one six pack of Guiness bottles.........They are only 11.6 oz each. The cans are 14 oz

I like your design. Its away from the radiator fan, plus you added the heat shield. looks great. Here is my intake ic piping and ic i built.

I would recommend people make their own if you have any experience with fabing parts. I have had a few requests to make kits for people though. Most of the companies intakes I've seen I don't like.
