Install Racing Harnesses AND Stock Belts

Is your girlfriend a priss and refuses to wear a racing harness? Do you love harnesses around town, but miss the stock belts on long trips?

Well... I answered yes to both of those questions!
Here was my fix to have both.

Same installation applied to both seats

I used Weapon R harnesses

Install Racing Harnesses AND Stock Belts-boat-013.jpg
Used factory nut and belt clip (detatched wire harness under seat to kill the 'put your seatbelt on A$$hole alarm')

Install Racing Harnesses AND Stock Belts-boat-014.jpg
Used provided loop bolt that came with harness

Used factory bolt and slid belt bracket underneath the seat track. The outside bolt covers will clip back in no problem, but the insides you'll have to notch out slightly on the bottom to clip back in (I haven't done it yet).

Yes, slighty jerry rigged... but hey, I'm from Cecil County.

I hope you didn't pay very much for those harnesses. They aren't legal for anything. $150 a piece and you could have gotten two Corbeau or Simpson 3", 5point harnesses that are legal for actual racing.

Oh, and have fun dying if you ever get in an accident. At least your gf will survive because she isn't wearing the harness you incorrectly installed.

I don't mean to be rude, but please do some research on harness install and you'll see what I mean.

i thought it was 4 points that are legal but not 5. and no they weren't expensive, ebay buy.

you don't think they will hold? it's using the 2 stock contact points, and then some.

lol the ability to hold has nothing to do with it racing harnesses are designed so that the shoulder harness part that goes through the holes in the seat back upright should stay horizonal so that forces generated from a accident are surpressed correctly... The way you have them where they go through the holes in the seat back and then straight down to the floor is incorrect ...... but for show I guess just don't for one second think you are better off with those instead of the O.E. seatbelt or some good quality harnesses "Installed Correctly!!" to go a bit OT is there a way to install a harness bar that's easily removable? Most of the time I'm not at the track and it's not safe to have passengers with the bar... but on the track the extra support would be VERY welcome...

i see your point. i suppose the forward motion in a crash would end up being supported by the seat back itself since most of the the pull will be coming from through the holes. thanks for the info, i'll be looking into getting a harness bar.

The shoulder straps should go straight through the harness openings in the seat and either mount to a harness bar, roll cage or possibly the stock mounting location for the rear seat belts.

It is recomended to never wear a harness unless the car has a roll cage. You stock seat belts are safer in the event of a rollover. If you car lands on the roof in an accident and the roof caves in there is no way for you to duck out of the way. The harnesses will do such a good job holding you in your head/neck can get crushed.

I do give you credit for giving it a shot though. I have had to learn the hard way many times with my car builds but would hate to hear about someone learing the hard way from a harness system not installed properly.

Good luck figuring out a harness bar/roll cage option
