Prosport boost gauge install...help!!!

Maybe one of you gurus can figure this out.

I have a Prosport electronic boost gauge (amber/white) I'm trying to install on an Evo X GSR. I'm pretty sure I have the "tee" fitting and sensor installed correctly.

I have it wired like this:

Black - ground
Red - power door lock fuse (constant 12v power)
White - hazard lights fuse (I tried it in the cig lighter fuse also)
orange - not used

Here's the problem, when it starts up it goes through the opening ceremony but I believe it does it twice. It runs the needle all the way up then back down two times then shows the boost maxed out and flashes back-and-forth between red and white with a constant BEEP, BEEP, BEEP.

I've searched everywhere trying to find out what is causing this, but no luck. I'm at the end of my rope. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

i installed this on my mazdaspeed3 and I didn't have this happen. It is only supposed to do the opening ceremony once, then go to zero. You may have a bad gauge or driver.

Cool vid...that helps. Thanks. Mine does the opening ceremony (2 sweeps of the needle) but then the needle shoots up to maximum boost and flashes red and white (like it does 45 seconds into the vid) and beeps like that but it never stops. I'm not screwing with the button either.

I would suggest using a different vacum line, the one that comes with prosport gauges suck and easily get kinked...what you are describing sounds like the gauge isn't recognizing the sensor so double check all your connections and definitely double check the ground as thats usually the problem when it comes to wiring.

Check your sender wiring.

If the gauge is pegged at full scale - sender is not getting a good ground

If the gauge is pegged at 0 or full bottom scale - sender does not have a good 12v power supply

If the pointer slowly rises until it pegs out - the output signal wire is not connected.

hey, real quick question. i just receieved this gauge but havent installed it yet. when the gauge is not connected to anything (like in the box) should it read 0psi or does it not matter. right now just sitting in the box it reads like 3 psi. i would have expected it to read zero when not connected to anything.

just want to make sure i dont have a gauge that was miscalibrated or something and that isnt gonna read wrong. hopefully when i hook it up it will read correct, just want to make sure this isnt an issue that it reads 3psi when off and not connected

I don't think it matters since these gauges use a stepping motor. It could be that the power was disconnected before the gauge was at 0. If you have a spare battery you could easily give it a bench test.

Dual color option wiring, white during the day and color at night.

Performance Series
Black – ground
Red - 12v ign. power - (switched 12v meaning power when the ignition is on)
White - 12v ign. power
Orange - Headlight switch (so the color changes at night)
Green - Sender

Premium Series (Peak/Warning) Gauges
Black - ground
Red - Constant 12v power
White - 12v ignition power
Orange - headlight switch
Green – Sender

I'll try some new tube as soon as I can get to the store.

I don't have a sender ground wire.

I have the performance series ( http://prosportgauges.com/52mm-boost-gauge.aspx ) but there is no green wire. The sender has a 4-wire harness that plugs into the back of the gauge itself.

Is the gauges you have the Prosport Peak/Warning Gauges or the regular Amber/White Gauge. If it is the Peak/Warning gauge w/ memory, the beeping noise is part of the opening sequence. The gauges are doing a self check to make sure when your gauge hits the peak setting that it will flash and beep to let you know you hit your peak. If you have the wiring correctly to a constant power source, just hold the peak button before you start the car. Hold it and turn your car on. It will beep again and you will hear a different tone of a beep. That is letting you know you turned it off. Turn off the car and turn it back on. If the constant power source is hooked up correctly, the beep is gone!!! Nothing wrong with the gauge. I had the same problem trying to turn it off. It drove me CRAZY!Hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply.

I'm thinking the wiring is screwed up somehow. I got the beeping to go off but it still continuously flashes red and white after the opening ceremony is complete. It doesn't just do it for a couple of seconds...it does if forever and if I didn't have the beep turned off it would be beeping the entire time also.

Got it!!!

It looks like one of the two power jacks was bad. I switched it over to the other one and it fired right up. Thanks for all the help!

*edit* i figured out my problem on trying to make the switch color function work...

easiest way to tap is to tap it to the traction control button since it lights up when you turn on the lights.

tap the orange wire from the gauge to the green wire w/white strip on the back of the traction control button to make the prosport gauge change color when you turn on the lights

no need to tap into the headlight switch at all
