How to: Install rear RA UR mud flaps WITHOUT removing rear tires

I got my RA mudflaps a few days ago and got around to installing them. There is a video from RA on how to install them, but they remove the rear wheels. I myself was to lazy and since the video SAYS you don't need to remove the rear wheels then I thought it wouldn't be to bad.... HA!!! Either way, I did get them on and in the process figured out a way to do it fairly easily. Anyway, here we go....

The first pic is just the first 2 clips that have to be unscrewed and removed. You have to put the right amount of pressure on them in order for them to pop out, BUT not to much so that you just push it right back in.

This pic shows the clip that has to be removed under the bumper... use a screw driver on each side since these are a bit harder to remove.

This pic shows the clips removed

Pull the fender liner back, it should look like this. I am a bit of a perfectionist, so while I had it off, I clean and wax that area of the paint since it likely won't ever see wax with the mud flap against it.

Here's a pic of the clip and the exact way it should go onto the tab on the car.

This is what the underside will look like with the old clip removed and the new clip in place. The online video shows all of this, and I didn't get a pic of the bracket, but if you have the kit then you know which one it is.

This shows the underside of the car put the way it should be before putting it back together.

Take the metal bracket and mount it to the underside of the car using the smaller round hole with a shorter screw and a plastic washer. It should look like this...

Don't forget to place a new clip onto the other hole of the bracket... after tightened, it should look like this....

At this point, put the fender liner back into place

Now, put the mud flap in place and put 2 longer screws with plastic washers in the first 2 holes. Here is the pic..

NOW is the fun part.. you are SUPPOSED to be able to place a small screw into the last hole and put it in there.. well I tried that and even used an L screw driver, but there just wasn't enough room for me SOOOOO... I happened to have 2 screws that have the nut on the end.. this is MUCH easier to be able to use a wrench and makes the whole job a quick experience, you can use any one of these as long as it's about the same size as the other screw. Get it into position and just finger tighten it.

Back to tightening down the first 2 screws.. place a screw driver flat against the tire as to get it as straight as possible to turn the screws in like so...

Another angle, don't tighten them down all the way just yet though...

Here is the first 2 screwed down, but left a little loose in case adjustment is needed... you will also notice the last screw with the nut head on it waiting to be tightened...

Mine happened to be a 3/8" nut head.. here it is getting tightened down and once I have checked the flap to make sure it's straight, I snug the 3 screws down. Here it is..

All in place here

Here is the rear of the mud flap all in place

I took a pic of the junk that came out of the bumper area after 1,000 miles... this is why I believe these are needed... all of this would be hitting and sandblasting your paint...

Ok that's it! I hope this helps someone to avoid some frustration.. it really is a pretty easy job, just be slow and patient!!

Thanks for the write-up, this will definitely help if I ever decide to install my rear flaps. After what seemed like an eternity to install the fronts, I gave up since the rears aren't really necessary. I'll be getting wider tires this summer, and I'm a glutton for punishment, so I'll probably give this install a shot one of these weekends.

The fronts are MUCH more of a pain, so don't sweat putting on the rears. I wanted the rears just because of how much junk I saw come on onto the floor... now hopefully I can at least minimize the paint damage. Either way, I hope that it does help you out!

I didn't remove my rear tires either. I just used a short phillips screwdriver and jacked the car up to move the wheels down a little more. Rear install took me about 10 minutes.

True that. The fronts were making me mad.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'll probably install them this weekend then, it's a shame to have them sit around in my garage after I spent so much $$ on them.

Took me forever to do the rears, I had a special 90 degree angled phillips screwdriver that I used but it was impossible to get any leverage on it. Wish I would of thought about using screws with the hex head so i could've used a socket on them.

You can see from them, that they offer a good amount of protection... I haven't had them on long enough to be able to tell you from experience though.

really even a socket is hard to get in there... maybe the 1/4" drive would be easier, but a wrench gets in there just perfect
