Interesting... I changed mine last week and my car doesn't have that plastic cover in front of the filter.....

Just went out and looked and my cover was wedged next to the big round thing Must have vibrated loose and fell off. No wonder my glove box was filling up with dirt!

I wish. 26K out the door for an 09 is acceptable in my mind, especially with the 12% tax here in BC but I wish I had noticed the smell when I was test driving it. Not until whatever air fresher the dealership had sprayed had faded did I notice it. Ah well, live and learn.

I need to remember to do this. Anyone else have a good experience with the Fram ones?

lol nice to see this write up.. i figured mine out last weekend while doing a AF gauge install. opened it up and wow was the filter dirty.. knowing that mitsu here in calgary charges 48$ for a filter and not knowing the part number or anything i tapped it out then ran it under the tap sprayer like i would with K&N air filter.. anyways i let it dry on top of a work light for a couple hours and reinstalled it. I was thinking about cheaping out and buying some open cell foam and cutting it to size then throwing that in. but if their only like 7 bucks each maybe i'll go that route.. no way i'd pay nearly 50 bucks though.

^^^ yea they are the same ones the nissans always took so they fairly cheap.

BTW, if yall look around, most are white paper, but if you find one that is grey, it has charcoal made into it. The charcoal eliminates/neutralizes any odors that pass through the filter. They usually are a little more expensive obviously..

I installed the Fram FreshBreeze one a few weeks ago, and it seems to work great.

The replacement was cheap, but had an extra piece of plastic, large, that was where the OEM snap cover went. OH well, better than it used to be, sealed up ok.
Its not normal for a filter to look like this, you have a rodent problem. A rat is nesting in your cabin filter.

I picked up the Fram filter at walmart for $15 and spent a whole 2 minutes replacing it last week. Holy hell, after 33k miles my filter was nasty.

Make sure when you replace the new filter, the air flow arrow is point down in the correct direction. It might look the same on both sides.. but the marking is on there for a reason.
