How to: Change the springs

Hey guys i have a set of stock springs at home and since I am selling the car i would like to change out the swift springs I have back to stock. If it possible to do this at home myself? Or should i take into the shop? Another quick question do the back seats have to come off for the rear springs?

its possible as ive done it in my driveway with just hand tools on my old rsx type-s and im assuming the setup if pretty much the same as far as what youre going to actually work with. however is it something id do again??? no never haha its an easy simple job thats also a very heavy job, especially with hand tools. a good shop shouldnt charge more than 100 or so to swap them anyway

It's a very easy job. You will need some spring compressors. Other than that, no special tools required. No you do not have to remove the back seats. It should take you no longer than a few hours. There is a how to on the other forum.

^ Pull away the plastic covers in the trunk. That will give you access to the strut top bolts.

I would STRONGLY suggest investing in an impact wrench if you do not already have one, or maybe just borrow one from a friend. It will be very difficult to get the top nut off the front strut with out one. I ended up having to take the front struts to a shop for them to swap the springs out. Now I have an impact wrench tho... But I would try to find one if I were you.

But like was stated earlier, shouldn't take more than a few hours. And you can rent the spring compressors from Auto-zone for free- you just have to put down a deposit.

Loosen, the top nut before you do anything else. Not all the way of course, but break it free. Then when the struts come out and the springs are compressed, it will come off freely. You really shouldn't use an impact wrench in the strut rod bolt. That is a no no. It can come in handy in other areas though.

Harbor Freight sells spring compressors for like $13. You can also rent from Autozone. I'd just go the Harbor freight route.
