How to wire up a backup camera (power related)
How to wire up a backup camera (power related)
Can a moderator move this thread, I think I put it in the wrong category.
I'm getting ready to install a backup camera and I have the harness for my navigation I just don't know how to power it. Can someone give me any suggestions on what would be the best way to do this.
Thanks
Update 7/30/2012!! Got my Camera Installed!!
I did this over the weekend and it was pretty frigging hot! 100+ degree days which really made it that much more fun!
I used a Cooper Bussmann/ATM fuse tap and plugged it into the 7.5 amp reverse fuse; I think it's number 13 if you look in the manual. Routing the wires to the back was really simple. One of the guides I read said you need to remove the backseat but you can very easily route it to the back without taking the seats out.
I removed my sub, the plastic piece that separates the backseat from the trunk and I was very easily able to feed the wires through between the backseat and the trim and it ended up in trunk.
There was a guide I used to remove the radio which was really easy the only thing was that the radio was pretty heavy and it was awkward to hold it in one hand and plug in the harness to get video input working.
After I got everything hooked up and I started my car I got a warning that I needed to get my airbag serviced which I can only attribute to the airbag warning light that sits below the radio being unplugged. I plugged it in and restarted and everything appears to be okay, I haven't gotten the message since.
If anyone has any questions let me know. I got the harness from someone on this forum that sells them for around $25.
I used this power it:

Here is where the fuse tap is plugged in

Great job!
Let me take a guess... OP mounted this camera about the license plate, right underneath the bumper. A few fellows did it that way too (so did I) although some didn't like it because the way the camera mounted did not give you a true justification of distance from your car bumper to the object behind.
My questions too... what backup camera and wiring are they?

I know this is pretty old but I haven't checked this in a long time. This is where I bought the harness from: https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/sa...a-adapter.html and the camera is integrated into a license plate from and it's by boyo. The perspective isn't great but it's so much better than trying to backup blind. This is the guide I used as reference: http://www.soflancer.com/downloads/backcam.pdf
