Complications with Works Short Throw Install on 2011 Evo X
Hey yall,
So what I thought was gonna be a quick Short throw install turned out to be a little more complicated then I would have thought and ultimately I wasn't able to finish and had to put the stock shifter back in.
I was following the instructions from Kracka / MAP to the tee, but I ran into a few things....
1. I was unable to easily access the two screws infront of the shifter to get the whole middle console out because I couldn't figure out how to get the ashtray / small storage console out. The design differs from the 2008-2010 models for which the instructions are based on.
2. How the heck are you able to get the rubber piece off the stock shifter that holds to boot in place? No matter what I did, I could not get that thing off, which is ultimately the reason why I stopped. It seemed like it would just slip off, but I couldn't even get it off by using a vice grip.
Basically I stopped there because of frustration and I ran out of time. Any help or advice, or future complications people could help me address would be much appreciated. I wasn't even able to try and tackle the bushings or selector gate or anything.
Thanks!

Were you able to take pictures of where you're having trouble? I did this earlier in the year and I had no problems. I also have the TWM shifter cage, so that made things easier since I didn't have to take apart the oem shifter.
I ran in to a headscratcher when trying to get to the two screws but the part that's in the way just pulls out without much effort....and I'm not sure what rubber piece ur talking about man :/ the real fun starts when you have to get the pins out of the cage to pull out the shifter
I had gotten the pins out and everything, and the shifter was out, but then I couldn't get the rubber/plastic piece off the shifter where the leather boot meets with the knob. =\
1. The front part of the console is merely 'clipped' in the middle part, be brave and tug a little and it will pop out.
2. I've an 2012 GSR, and I just installed the Works Shifter today. The "rubber/plastic" piece holds the leather/PVC boot, you'll have to separate the "rubber and the plastic" in order to remove the boot. Spray a little silicone lubricant and it will slip out.

I tugged on just about everything on the center console. Do the cigar lighter cubby and the RCA cable cubby both come out?
And I'll give that another shot when I have time. Thanks for the suggestions!

The center console bushings gave me 6 little cuts on the back of my palm, its a PITA to install. Those stiff urethane bushings are really hard to poke through the hole of the cage. Patience is required + cursing.... eventually they will budge and you'll celebrate.
really? Because one of my bushings ended up cracking. Oh boy you thought it was hard getting a normal bushing in there, try a bushing that was splitting in half.
Update: Well I finally had some time to give this another shot and everything went well! The cubby hole piece that I was taking about was basically a plastic strip that was held in by two clips. I ended up just angle grinding off the plastic/rubber boot retainer as the Works shifter comes with its own. I managed to get all the bushings in but I have a ton of cuts on my hands to show for it.
All in all, its great! I don't know if I want to do the under the hood bushings, AMS selector, etc anymore!
