tools for change brake pad?
tools for change brake pad?
Hey guys, I'm gonna change my brake pad this week, i don't have any tools, and i found out that pep boy or auto zone have tools to rent, how it works and what i need for change brake pad.
one more thing need advise, I'm going to track day this weekend, my brake was not so bad, but i did see brake pad change warning showed once half month ago and last weekend. my concern is if i change pad this week, will it be ready for weekend track day? or should i wait for next week to replace?

Well, Post #2 is a hard act to follow, but I'll try.
As weird as this may seem, with the OE Brembos, the key tools are a center-punch (nail-setter) and a hammer. You will also need a way to retract the pistons (because new pads are thicker than old pads); this is best done by opening a bleeder and just using your thumbs. The bleeders are something quite small. If no-one posts the exact size, a mini crescent wrench will do.

Post #2 ensured that trying to run a track day on worn pads is a bad idea... I suspect OP has not tracked a car before (please forgive me if I am wrong). Your brakes will be used extremely hard! You could use up to 25% pad life* in one track day...
Also, flush the brake fluid with new synthetic brake fluid. Brake fade due to boiling brake fluid is badbadbad...
Be sure to report back on your track day experience!
*depending on driving style, track (top speed), and pad compound.

Brake pads are a simple project you can do easily in under 30 min.
You do not need to open bleeder valves to retract the pistons. There is a tool you can use http://www.zeckhausen.com/Tools/cali...n_spreader.htm makes job really simple,
OR
Just use a large flat screwdriver, and push the pistons far enough back to get the old pads out, and new pads in.
