brake indicator in dash flashing

I have noticed in the last couple of days that my "brake" indicator in the dash that comes on when the e-brake is on flashes once in a while during driving. This happeneds both during braking and acceleration. I usually goes away after a few minutes. My brake pads are due to be changed as soon as Vivid delivers the Ferodo pads for the rear. Is this because of a built in pad wear indicator? Or is this something I need to have the dealer check out? Thanks.

Dealer time. The light will come on if there is a drop in pressure, or if the ebrake signal switch is tripped.

It might just be the switch, meaning it's more annoying than dangerous, but it's a very good idea to check with the dealer. Better safe than dead.

check your brake fluid. if you're going to change the pads then don't worry bout it.

**edited by SC** Calling people names is grounds for a formal warning.

sounds like you e-brake switch
take to dealer for warranty repair
but if you do change your pads, still check your fluid

i bet you find a loose or missing spring on your e-brake switch though.

Marginally low fluid levels in your Master Cylinder will cause the symptoms you describe.. if your brake pads are pretty worn then its no surprise that the level is low. Again, follow everyone's advice and bring it to the dealer to be certain.. but at least the fluid level in the MC is easy to check... Heavy braking or hard acceleration will cause it to slosh and possibly trip the level sensor or draw air into the system..

Who are you calling "galactically stupid"? Low BF is the most logical answer to this problem. It's right up there with a loose gas cap and the CEL.

Thanks guys. I am supposed to get my rear brake pads this week from Vividracing. So I guess I will take the car in on Friday. I will tell the dealer to check it out before replacing the pads and fluid.

I'm very low on brake pads and mine just started doing this last night. During heavy braking the brake light will flash then turn off. I'll be getting new pads and lines any day now so I'll let you know if the light goes away.

low fluid level will cause that. Don't add any more fluid, doing so will just defeat the purpose of the level switch. Get the brakes done asap
