Yes, I think that the wing is like a tail fin from the 1950's: I bet it provides no tangible benefit for driving under any condition, track or street.

Does anyone have any info one way or the other on the SSS wing and whether it serves anything other than a marketing function?

The SSS wing does do something. It just doesnt do much for downforce. It's largest function is reducing lift. Check this out. To be honest, I took the wing off because I like the looks better. The next mod on the list for me is an APR wing. I am mounting it on another trunk lid and will swap out trunks on track days.

new to evo's? most of all you see on the car, most of it is functional. what rational are you using when you assume the wing is there just for looks? please afford one first and drive it before you go off assuming the wing is there strictly for rice fashion.

I own a 2008 Evo X with SSS.

Do you assume that the wing is functional? Why?

I'm assuming that it is not a truly functional wing because it doesn't look like it has any of the typical airfoil features of a wing.

Listen, I'm willing to learn. What do you know?

Anyone??

Looks great, I was wondering if you had pictures of the VG from the back of the car. I wanted to see if the fins are angled (like the old 8/9) or straight. Thanks!~

Did you have the oem front aero kit before you installed the APR lip?

the typical airfoil feature you are looking for .. is what?

well. from looking at it and knowing a little bit about aerodynamics on cars, i've come up with

smooth underside of wing, swept upwards to? Check. underside of wing is molded to react to different airflows coming up and over the roof, along with side vortices.

are vertical stablizers present? check (side mounts) Typically these are endplates on GT style wings.. to deal with side vortices

high and into the moving airstream? check. your typical trunk lip spoiler, or even the ralliart wing is not high enough (imho) to get out of the dirty airstream that's messed up due to airflow separation from the rear window.. higher the wing on this car will benefit with more downforce but the OEM high mount works.

relatively flat angle of attack? check.. this is a street car, so neutral position set from factory probably would work best at a position that would reduce lift for minimal drag penalty..

did i miss anything?

I just got these in the mail from Rexpeed. Nice quality.
Heat Shield and Hood Scoop. These are going on a WW Evo X.

Here you go! I apologize for the crappy iPhone picture, but its the best I could do for now. The fins are angled, but between the sun and the iPhone the angles are hard to make out.

Yes I had the OEM aero kit. That was until a deer got in my way!! The deer removed most of the OEM lip, and I the rest was no problem. Lip mostly uses stock mounting locations with a couple exceptions. Install took 30-45 minutes.

Nice!! That scoop is going to look great on WW!! How are the heat shields? Can you post a picture after you put them on? I have been thinking about those, but I am wondering how they contrast with the OEM diffuser.

Ah, thanks for letting me know. The double sided tape on mine is giving me problems. I guess I'll have to heat it up a bit with a heat gun to get it off. Stubborn Tape!

Car looks good!

Thanks!!

The tape was all that was the only thing holding my lip on after I hit the deer. It is a pain. I just pulled and pulled until it came off. It all depends on how much you care about the OEM lip. Mine was broken already so I didn't mind twisting and pulling to get the tape off. Heat gun will help though. Maybe put some goo gone on the tape and let it soak in for a while. I know that helped me.

Seriously it was a ***** to install the hood scoop because of that plastic tab. Good luck to those that do not have prying skills. Here is a before and after shot.
