I'm going to try and get some up of all the different restrictor plates this weekend. Then after my tune next weekend I'll get some more since by then I'll have my DP on as well.

Click on them.

Sorry I accidentally removed the links to the larger images. They are there now.

As korosshiya said install was a breeze and the hardest part was getting the stock cat off the car (it was the same way for my exhaust install). AMS system is quality built however and everything fit very nice and bolted right up. The option to change the exhaust note is a nice feature and it definitely sounded good. As for volume I'd say with the plate with the biggest hole (not the wide open plate) it was louder than my perrin with a test pipe. It was a different tone however. A little higher pitched but still with some nice rumbles.

You know after I tightened up the restrictor to get rid of the rattles I didn't hear the higher tone so much anymore. We need to get together so I can listen back to back with yours just to see if I'm getting used to it or if it's gone. Not to mention it'd be nice to get some sound clips of the two systems side by side.

Let me know when and where...I'm down. Still haven't heard my car other than from the driver's seat. I'm sure it sounds great but it is a totally different perspective outside the car.

I have this system as well, and have had both the issues you mentioned. It's the plates. I noted that if a plate was oriented right, it would make a high pitched sound, perhaps due to something similar to a 'whistle' effect as the air passed through. As the plate got covered in fuel and carbon deposits, it went away. I used to have a clip of it posted on YouTube, but deleted it.

I also had persistent rattling issues. I would tighten it up, it would be OK for a week or two, then start rattling again. I don't know if yours will do this, but mine did. I talked to AMS, and they said, "Apparently we put a slight bend in the disks before they leave so there is side tension on them while they are clamped down." Mine had no bend, and I see that yours don't either. They sent me a replacement set with the bend when I asked, but I don't know if they commonly do that or if it was because of all the issues I've had with it. I plan to put in one of the bent plates today.

Great customer service, though.

I got maybe 35-40hp on the stock tune with this and AMS's short ram intake. I didn't baseline stock, so it's hard to say for sure, but a stock X typically puts down about 220hp on Buschur's dyno. I hit about 260hp on the stock tune, 306hp after tuned. Other results from this dyno show that's a great result with only those mods, so it seems like it does pretty well.

This is pretty interesting, too:

Videos:
Passenger side wide open
Largest diameter plate

I've tried all the plates, and I think the one with the largest diameter hole sounds the best. It's a little loud, but seems to be more throaty than the smaller diameter hole. Wide open is pretty raspy (not to mention deafening), I don't like it. Of course, I'm on the stock cat. Everything could be different for you.

I've posted up some sound clips for idle and revving to 3k and 7k RPMs. This is my AMS Twin Tip with HFC. I will get the DP on next weekend and then I'll get some more clips. I don't have any in cabin sound clips yet. I hope to get a few of those before the DP install as well, but I'm not sure I'll have time.

Anyway, here is the link to the sound clips...

vids sound pretty close to how it actually sounds...I'm suprised there isn't much of a difference between the sorta open and the mostly open plate. Can't wait to dyno!!!
