Evo X Shift Light: Do we have a "tach" signal?
Evo X Shift Light: Do we have a "tach" signal?
I want a shift light, as my path towards Fast and Furious is not complete without one. All I'll need after this is Vin Diesel to ride with me, and bam, I'm in like Paul Walker. Paul Walker.
Anyways, looking at this (and, well, every shift light ever, this PDF was just the most friendly looking):
http://www.glowshift.com/pdf/adjusta...ift-lights.pdf
It calls to hook the "green wire" up to the "tach signal". That's about as useful as telling a blind man to just look around.
Anyways, do we have a "tach signal" wire to tap into? Or, if not, is there a different way to go about this?
Thanks.

Geeze-o-man, every one knos all you have to do is hook the green wire to the tach pulse signal wire from the ecu..... common knowlegde silly....... lol just kidding
Look for it at the ecu.... just look up the pin codes.... "tack signal" hope that helps

Yeah, I found the ECU thread. Forgot to search.
Meh, I'll just give it a shot and see if it works. If not, so be it. I'll just start to randomly splice into things.
It would be, but that's kind of the point
I'd personally set it to flash at 200 or so RPM before the actual red line, or whatever, just to give me a heads up.
When I drive, I'm semi retarded, so a bright light helps.

I think a shift light would distracting as hell

Ask someone on here who has a service manual for the X to show you the pinout of the ECU and preferably the dash cluster wiring diagram. You most likely need to tap that into the signal wire that goes in to the stock tach.

FWIW: Shift lights are totally unnecessary unless you are road racing the **** out of the car, and even in that case you shouldn't need a light to tell you when to shift. You should know from the sound and feel of the car. Now don't listen to your inner ricer...

I'm also going to be installing LED lights and an underglow kit. I plan to do a totally different color for each though; thinking pink LEDs, a blue underglow, green shift light, and maybe just a gigantic spinning disco ball on the inside.
It's going to be epic.
Oh, and when VTEC kicks in, I'm totally going to be enjoying it too much for my own good.

I always thought that stealth-mounting a single LED flush into the dash would be nice. Have it just low enough that it's still in your field of view, but not blinding and have it flash slow then faster approaching redline, and then solid-on at redline.
