Seat Changeout Questions
Seat Changeout Questions
Folks,
Want to buy new 2010 Evo but the stock seat pinches my 38 inch waist. I am willing to pay to pull out that seat and put in a different one. Questions for you are
a) what should this cost me, ballpark?
b) will this void the warranty
c) what kind of company/individual should do this work for me and how do I find them
d) where can I go to find alternate seat, is there a store that stocks these I can try them (I don't care much other than that it can't have those tall barriers/guards on the right and left seat bottom that wedge me in
I am not 'handy' and cannot do this myself. Otherwise I love this car and refuse to look at anything else...
Thanks,
shawnd

Well th main problem you have is the air bag in the seat. I think it's illegal to remove the seat in because of the air bag, so most shops won't touch it. Warranty will be voided. And you will end up with a cel once the seat is out
I'm sure you could swap with someone who has a regular lancer. They would have less "fitting" seats and I'd guess most lancer owners would be happy to trade. Plus you'd still have the airbags.
Im in the same boat, would like a better "fitting" seat for a larger gentleman
.
Im a 36-38 waist and have been looking into the Sparco EVO 3 (XL) it is cut for a taller/larger guy and holds at the sholders and waist far better. As for the CEL (SES) issue due to the airbag in the seat no longer sending a signal I know there is a work around with resistors. This seat however is designed more for auto x/track/spirited driver. It has no lumbar adjustment, so it might be uncomfortable for those who don't like a more upright posture for long periods of time.
As for the issue if it will void your warranty, the answer is yes. You aren't suppose to remove properly working safety devices from the vehicle (Airbags) in accordance to the NHTSA. But will Johnny Law know...doubt it. When you ( or if you ) decide to sell your vehicle, you will most def have to disclose that the vehicle is missing safety devices that were deemed standard in the vehicle.

hey shawnd,
the seats get better as the break in. I'm a fat **** compared to you. I hated the seats for the first 2-3 weeks but after that they expanded a bit (haha) and now I refuse to switch them for aftermarkets.

i like the stock seats
i dont see a 38 waist being an issue...since the seats are designed to open up some and break in over time.
i only have a 33 waist....but mine still adjusted to me after like a week.
the sides are sort of high, so i sort of step into the car and blop myself down right in the middle of the seat, avoiding the side bolsters and my aero kit from getting hit.
**id like to know more about how to not throw a cel if the seats are removed...as i plan to buy racing seats someday

shawnd, are you referring to MR seats or GSR seats?
I have seen the MR seats in person but I don't ever recall sitting in them. Is there a difference in structure between the MR and GSR seats, as in, does one hold you in tighter than the other?
