I think BOV's sound cool!
I thought we were all on the same team here?.. Apparently some of you guys need to spend less time on here and more time getting laid.. good lord.
I ran VTA on my EVO VIII for 2yrs and never had an issue, if you load the car heavily then clutch it at lower rpm's it would sometimes stumble.. but I'm not sure why you would need to do this? Other then that I had no issues with black smoke.. no issues with stalling no issues period.. and it wasnt any louder than the stock recirc valve on my X is with the cosworth intake setup.

Some of us are interested in being flamboyant and annoying and spend more time worrying how our sweet body kit looks or if our loud BOV is the sickest sounding thing EVARRRRRR! The other group, however, which I consider myself to be apart of, modifies the car for performance first and aesthetics second. It's ok to have passion for your car and modify how you like it. Personally, though, when I see Evos fully Voltex'd out with crazy wide body kits, huge wings and obnoxious BOV's and they will never see a track, all I can think is "ricer".
Again, if you think loud VTA BOV's are cool I suggest you log out of here and hit up the nearest SRT4 gathering. Trust me when I say they will think you are the coolest guy ever and won't judge you for how bada$$ you are with that sweet BOV! On second thought, maybe you should drop the Evo and grab a Neon. They are WAY better at making retarded, unneeded amounts of noise. They also sound like diesel trucks if Diesels were gay. WIN!!!
There's also an element of intellectual honesty involved. We have a MAF-equipped car and a VTA BOV. We also had one individual insisting his car runs fine, and now we have another in a VIII insisting he never had an issue. It's magic. As such, one is put in a position where he argues a negative - logically impossible - because "never had an issue" seems to have a different meaning for those individuals. Why bother?
I have modified cars for functionality, and have built domestics both with Tial valves one has ran 8's in the 1/4 the other 9's with the new owner and will likely soon be in the 8's.. I spend more time worrying about my own car then what someone else thinks is cool. Fully modified cars that have every part thrown at them out of the jdm scene dont strike my fancy.. but I dont lose sleep over it, or tell them to log out. I've been on here a very long time and dont see myself going anywhere because I have an open mind and you do not. If a person wants to buy a 30k dollar car.. sink 50k in it to get outran by someone who sank 15k into their's is fine with me. I wont lose sleep over it, and worrying about someone running a vta "ricer" valve is a waste of anyones time.
Valid point. I honestly don't lose sleep whatsoever. When I close out of the thread, I probably won't think about it again. I do get annoyed when people harass me when I'm driving my Evo, because most of the time I'm just trying to get from A-B and don't feel like being accosted by someone's annoying BOV noise. This happened to me not 2 weeks ago when I was coming off Camp Geiger. This guy (SRT4) was driving on a military base revving it up to the point where the BOV would sound off then slowing down, then starting the process over. The speed limit was 35. That's not exactly flying. He proceeded to do this right next to me when we got off base too, until his eventual ricery fly by as the road split and we went separate directions.
I'm contributing in the manner that I am merely for sh*ts and giggles because I find the idea funny. I always thought the Evo crowd was a bit more mature and more focused on important stuff. It is true though if someone wants to blow all their money on useless parts, then let them.
We have already addressed Tial valves in some part earlier in the thread. They are a quality valve that happens to make noise. If someone picks one up for the sound they clearly aren't trying hard enough because the RFL and SSQ are far more obnoxious and possibly more up their alley.

I'm not sure who I find more distasteful, the ricer fan boi stuntahs with their "look at me!", won't-go-faster bling and sideways baseball caps or the arrogant knowitall big mouths pontificating about how others should behave.
I dont know what the fuss is all about! Everybody is welcome right?
You can't judge the car performance by the sound of the bov. Rally cars have a very loud bov with this forum called "compressor surge" sound, you might even say unplesent... And still they do not perform as a track cars or drag cars etc...
So for some my car so as other rally cars , based on this thread are ricer, so the rally drivers are ricers....
reason I feel the car with a turkish bazaar engine bay , is a ricer and so the all unused - useless body parts..Even if they build all the top brand names LOL
What is the ricer really is , really ?

WOW … my BoV is getting some derision!!
So, basically, despite the fact that I have a well built, competitive Time Attack car that is actually used as such I am a RICER (which in the context of this discussion is a negative term) because I have a VTA system.
Interesting.
Do you have the same opinion on people who fit 19x10.5 + 12 wheels to their EVO 10s? How about an AMS wide mouth down pipe, is that a fitting mod? Perhaps there is no technical benefit in having twin exhausts?
Let me guess, I am a RICER because I have installed a HKS ECU …. or even because I have a fuel surge system……
Now I know why you lot get your own special ECU

I am somewhere on that balance line between these two... approaches.
Even though my car will be tuned to run at boost a bit higher than 26... I'm going to use my EBC to tone it back. plus my aluminum piping on the intake and my Forge RS DV are going to make a bit more noise. This makes me happy, and that's good enough for me.
There is empirical evidence that without a custom tune to account for speed density a VTA BOV will at best will be neutral. MAF controlled cars just can't benefit. from it as well as a Speed Density driven car.
So in other words. as we have all said many times before. it's your car, mod it how you want. I personally still get a little chubby when I hear a BOV pop off and it's backed by a fast looking car. Evo X, STI, Speed3, etc...
But to be fair, at the same time I swapped my SSS trunk/spoiler out for an MR trunk w/ lip. makes the car look classier to me. but I am obviously a fan of the wingless look. I do know that I gave up a small amount of down force by swapping it out. but it looks better to me. Is this rice because it's not making my car faster, but technically, a bit slower? Of course not.
If you have the time, patience, and funding to pull a VTA system. good for you man. throw up a youtube link because I want to see/hear that beast.
