We are required in Maryland to have license plates front and back, and I was pulled over by a Maryland State policeman last week for not having one in the front. The good news? When I told him I hadn't installed the front plate yet because I only owned the car a couple of weeks, he let me go with a warning. The bad news? I cannot believe there isn't a license plate frame available for the EVO that would allow us to utilize the toe hook. And all because the EVO doesn't have a thread for a front toe hook! I read in someone's post on here that they utilized an existing license plate mount designed for a Subaru ($70), and paid a shop to fabricate a frame for the bumper to allow a toe hook ($100). $170 for a license plate frame for an EVO? Give me a break! I paid $70 for the one I bought from Stillen for my GT-R, and for the one on the CTS-V I used to own, I thought it was highway robbery for the $130 I paid RHO-Plate for theirs. At this rate I'm just going to have the license plate mount installed on the front where it normally goes and be done with it. Sheesh...

 

Why do you need a tow hook so bad if it's your DD? Did the car not come with any mount at all?

I believe you're referring to my post about the license plate bracket. Yea it was a bit over the top, but it works. Another option people on the forums have done is to clearbra the bumper and mount the adhesive screw mounts.

 

zip tie the plate to the crash beam. I got a mount for the plate with my car and the plate goes on drivers side on the front while the tow hook tab is on the passengers side so I'm not sure what are you complaining about.

 

What I'm complaining about is the lack of availability of a ready to use license plate mount, that bolts into the existing toe hook threads. It would seem to me that if someone is selling one of these mounts for something like a Hyundai, they would make one for an EVO. Yes, I know I can mount the license plate on the driver's side, and yes I was given a license plate mount from the dealer. I chose not to have it installed at the dealership because I wanted a toe hook mount, and I incorrectly assumed I could easily get one for the EVO. The point is, some people are particular about how they put things on their car. If you're the kind of person that doesn't mind using tie wraps to affix your license plate to your vehicle, more power to you. Personally, I feel the toe hook mount is a cleaner option. And that's personal preference, plain and simple.

 

Because even my DD I take very good care of, and am very picky. Been that way with all my cars.

Ps the reason they don't have a tow hook plate holder is because behind that plastic tab there is no threads, most people that have tow hooks drilled the threads themselves.

 

^^^ This. There aren't any threads there. You would have to order a JDM crash beam. I believe those are drilled..

I saw one pretty cool way to mount it on here. It would slide under the bumper (under the car) when you didnt want it up but it would slide up and sit infront of the driver side fog lamp if you needed it up while driving..

No, I am just very particular about my vehicles. Even my very first vehicle, a '64 Rambler, which I paid $400 for while stationed in the Philippines back in the mid-70's, I took very good care of. That's just how I am. I'm also that person you see parking their car waaaaaaaaay far away from everyone else, to avoid door dings and scratches.

 

It's your DD, why not use the OEM braket?

 

That's what I ended up doing. I'm just very particular about the care and appearance of my vehicle, whether it's the GT-R that I drive a couple of days a week, or the daily driven EVO.
