HKS USA1 build thread
HKS USA1 build thread
Greetings everyone. My name is Scott and I’m the US manager for HKS. Last summer I purchased my first Evo, a 2013 WW GSR, with the intention of turning it into a HKS demo. car. Because HKS is one of very few manufacturers that sincerely focus on total vehicle tuning, I’ve chosen mods to compliment as many aspects of the car as possible. From intake to intercooler, BOV to boost controller, suspension to spark plugs – everything is HKS. By design, everything works in harmony. The level of performance is insane. And the car is an outright blast to drive.

I’ve installed a few parts so far but today I’m going to cover the first 3 mods:
HKS DMR – Direct Multi-Recorder (~1/2 hour to install)
HKS OB-Link (~10 minutes to install/download app/set-up)
HKS Hipermax IV GT suspension kit (~2.5 hours to install)

Short & sweet: the DMR is like having twin video cameras mounted in your car that record audio and video, as well as vehicle speed, GPS location, and 3D G-forces. It records/saves all data to a SD card and has a live video output that you can run to an in-dash monitor. One cool feature: if you have internet access during playback you can trace your drive with Google Maps within the HKS software. Playing back spirited drives for your friends is pretty fun.
Practical purposes: track day run analysis for speed, corner entry, maximum g-force by corner. Maintenance. Security. Accident evidence. Personal gratification.

Rear camera mounted.

The OB-Link is a OBDII data transmitter that sends live vehicle data via. Bluetooth to any Android-powered device. Vehicle data is viewed through HKS’ OB-Link app and can be custom configured in a multitude of ways. In addition to viewing live vehicle data, you can also monitor fuel economy and set custom maintenance reminders for everything from oil changes to brake pads. I was anxious to install & try this and I refer to it a lot more than I would have initially thought. I find myself showing friends highlights of various drives all the time. Some of the data screens:

And the Hipermax IV GT suspension. The most noticeable, beneficial, and rewarding mod. On HKS’ stock settings, ride quality is smoother than stock, even on our horrifying Michigan roads. Daily driving feels compliant, comfortable, and confident. During spirited driving or track days you’ll notice razor sharp turn-in, easily controllable and predictable throttle steering, and a extremely smooth, stable, confidence inspiring feel. The Hipermax IV GT suspension genuinely makes the Evo X a much more enjoyable car to drive. Street or track.
Notables: Mono-tube design for the highest degree of performance and allows for proper inverted installations (Evo X, FR-S/BRZ, etc.). Shocks are set to HKS’ optimum settings before packaging – allows user to open box, install, & drive without any adjustments. But if you do like to adjust – there is a wide range of settings available for damping, spring rate, and ride height.

Stock front vs. HKS. Out of the box, the overall HKS shock length is ~2” shorter than OEM resulting in a ~2” drop. The HKS bottom bracket is independently adjustable allowing you to adjust ride height without changing the spring rate. The HKS spring is made up of many more coils than the OEM spring resulting in a much more consistent and linear spring feel. Billet top mounts are included. And all HKS shocks have 30-way adjustable damping.

Front shock installed. OEM brackets and brake lines fit just like OEM.

Installing rear shock with adjuster.

Cool. There's a lot more to come.
If anyone in the metro-detroit area wants to check it out or go for a ride, get in touch with me through this forum or motovicity and I'll do my best to hook it up.

You can hard-wire power or use the cig lighter adapter. The files are saved as mp4 so you don't need the HKS software for playback, but if you want to view both cameras with gps and g force data you must playback through HKS DMR viewer.
It isn't like motec with video capture, but it does offer some of the same benefits for a lot less than $15,000.
Great thread already, I love HKS!
I have the IC piping, racing suction reloaded intake, and hi-power exhaust. Quality and fitment is always top notch!
Let us know if you can get any forum "deals"
