Added some color...
Well I am rather new to the forum so I guess I’ll give a little history. I painted cars for 6 years out of high school. I then decided it was not something I enjoyed doing every day all day. Breathing chemicals can take a toll on your body so I ventured back to school & now have a much better desk job.
Doing things in the evenings on my own cars or small jobs for friends is much more satisfying than doing it every day. My last car was a Saabaru that I completely stripped down & changed the color, from Desert Silver to Lexis IS-F Ultrasonic blue along with multiple other mods.
I really dislike chrome & wanted to paint the intercooler piping & intake. I was going through the different colors I have accumulated from projects when I found 6oz of a very special color I had bought for a previous project. PPG Harlequin Essence Cyan to Purple VM4987, it goes for $450 for a small 6oz bottle.
After thinking about it a few days I knew I also had to do the valve cover which meant I had to do the easy wire tuck I saw posted on here. I took everything apart on Friday night; prepped it/ painted it Saturday, & put it all back together on Sunday. Pictures do not do show how vibrant the color really is or how much it flops from purple shades to blue shades but you get an idea. I really think it came out great & love it.
Everything was cleaned, sanded with 400 grit/red scotchbrite, cleaned a few more times, hung up in my garage & painted with all automotive grade basecoat/clearcoat. I listed the steps below on the painting process:
1) SEM etch primer, 2 light coats
2) PPG DBC9700 black basecoat, 2-3 coats
3) PPG VM4987 color basecoat, 2-3 coats
4) PPG DC2000 clear, 3 coats

The next two are before clear.
