Projector Headlight Blackout

I know there are a number of threads about this but I am hoping to get a few direct answers here...

1) Which is better? Flat black paint or plastidip? I know the dip is a little more forgiving but which looks better and which will hold up better?

2) How much dis-assembly is really necessary in order to do this and not mess anything up? Obviously I know the lens needs to come off, and removing the electronics is necessary to do that. But once the light is open, how much do I need to take it apart?

I know I will get a couple of "SEARCH!" replies but I appreciate anyone's help.

I would use flat black. I have not heard of anyone using plastidip (not saying it hasn't been done or that it is the incorrect way).

Here is a How To.

How much you take apart etc...is all in the posted link.

you are pretty much going to gut the whole headlight depending on what you want to paint black

i would say the biggest thing i learned NOT to do from doing mine is make sure when you put your light back together, the piece with the lens that actually connects to the adjusters, make sure it's all snapped back into place properly and all your adjusters WORK. i did not check this and did not realize until i had put the lens back on and installed on my car that the top adjuster was stripped out and i couldn't raise or lower the projector for alignment

I used Krylon high heat flat black. It's not as flat as Plastidip which is why i used this instead. I love the way mine came out. As far as disassembly goes rrd is pretty spot on. You're going to take just about everything out. It's a good amount of work but definitely worth it.
