Painting wheels

Sorry if this is a noob question but when painting wheels, do you just to the outer surface? Or do you paint the whole wheel inside and out as in even the area that is covered by the tires?

I can't seem to get rid of my stock Enkeis as there is a lot of curb rash and thinking about just painting them and keeping them.

Yes, I know I should probably get them powder coated but would like to try painting them myself first to see how they turn out.

Thanks for any input.

That depends entirely on how lazy you are. It is best to paint at least the front face and the inside of the barrels, IMO. I would coat it all, though.

cut a cardboard strip and use it like a barrel to mask off the tire, then sand off the ruff spots, degrease/scrub the wheel, and paint it. Don't worry about the inside, even the factory doesn't paint it. Take the wheel off the car though.

I see. thanks for the reply. I will just prep the wheels and do the whole thing including the outer barrel of the wheel. Was worried that outer barrel paint will just peel off or something when putting on new tires.

When you say "inside" are we talking about the inner of the barrel? Not the side the tires are on but the inside of the wheels? The wheels are already off the car with no tires on them.

Why not just plasti-dip. It works too. Just make sure and at least apply 3 or more coats.

I just heard Plasti dip is a pain in the *** to clean...especially with how much brake dust the Evos produce.

I'd do the inside barrels too....inside the wheel you can see when installed on your evo... Especially if you are going from light to dark or the other way around....if a similar color..then yeah..you can probably get away without painting the inside barrels..
