I just installed RS3s 275/35/18 and they seem to be just slightly pinched. I will have them on the car possibly this afternoon and I will take some pictures as well. To have them full squared 265s would be just right. More info on how 275s feel on the road coming up!

That is still with stock suspension (sans FSB). Those wheels also have a bit more favorable offset compare to the stock (forgot the numbers, but they are RPF1s with 35mm I think). I am still allowed to use 5 mm spacers on them and still be able to be whiting the BS rules allowance, which would look even better and expand the wheel base as well.

245/45/18 is noticeably taller than 275/35/18 (which is nearly identical height to stock). They'll fit the stock wheels much better than 275s, also. They'll raise the car a bit, reduce the wheel gap, and ride smoother. Your fuel economy will improve slightly, and your speedometer will read a bit lower than actual, especially at higher speeds.
The taller sidewall will also make the tire react a bit more slowly to all inputs.
In a drag racing environment for the Evo X, I'd choose the taller sidewall. On a racetrack where handling reigns, I'd take a wider wheel and tire every time.

As Noize mentioned, 245/45/18s should be noticable taller than 275/35/18s. I had to switch back to my all seasons (Kumho 4X) tonight due to low temperatures coming in here for the next few days (beauty of living in New England), and when I had them both off the car, side to side comparison showed 275s to be almost an inch taller!!
The only way for this to happen is that 275s got squeezed on those rims that much so it affected overall radius of the tire. Tire Rack shows the OIDfor Kumho to be 26.7" and for the RS3s 25.6". So, by all means it should be other way around, but it was not when compared.
I have a race on Saturday and that is going to be another comparison between those two and this time I will measure the height of the car as well as the gap between the tires and fenders and post it back. I swear it felt like car was going slower than the speedometer was showing with 275s...

ps. well, I should also add that traction with new tires is several times higher then those of the Kumho all seasons. They behaved pretty close to the Hoosiers and made no noise when pushed hard and over the limit. I did run them at only 35 psi all around, which is way too low for the combination, but they still outperformed my M+S tires hands down!
pss. I just realized that my Kumhos are in 245/40/18 size (not 45), so they should be the same size as RS3s. I guess, due to more thread on RS3s it makes them slightly taller.
