adding larger rims and tires for the X How does it affect performance?
I'm thinking about throwing on some 19's on the X, and I don't want to keep the original diameter of the wheel+ tire, because I don't feel comfortable running on such thin tires. So i'm wondering how will it effect performance to add 19's and tires that will increase the diameter length. I understand that the speedometer and odometer won't measure accurately, but how will this effect performance?
What i mean is i don't want to maintain the original rolling radius of the tire + wheel when i'm rolling on larger wheels, because the tire will be much lower profile. I was planning on throwing on 19's and than thicker sidewall tires that would eventually make my rolling radius larger than oem spec. which is why i'm wondering if that will effect performance.

thin tires? the stockers are 245's for god sake. That's not thin really for the size of the car. When you say 'you don't feel comfortable' what do you mean?..lol
..and if you go to a 19" wheel with a bit wider 35 series tire it should be about the same overall diameter as an 18" with 40 series. Go the Tire Racks tire/specs pages for the real info on sizing
If you do go to 19"s you should see pretty good performance gains ie turn in and body roll...but a bit rougher ride. On a smooth road it should be a gas

Yes but from my understanding from friends who had 20" rims ... the decreased sidewall makes it difficult for daily use. They would complain about things such as damage to the rims from potholes and such. I don't know if this is true or not because the largest rims I've had are the 18"s on my X.

. Those IMO are for the track. BUT if you live in an area where the roads are perfect then maybe you can get away with it DDMost will run 18's on the street and be damn happy...and 19"s on the track and be even happier.

stick with stock overall diameter of the wheel. Stick with 18's they are lighter. Lighter is faster. 19's are more for show. wider the better, more traction but also heavier. The key is balance! 18's = Go. 19's = show.

DONT DO THIS. it will affect the handling/ RIDE. just wait for the lowered springs to come out in a couple of weeks. Eibachs are close. they are cheap and really should help the ride. currently will drop the front 1.4 inch and 1 inch rear. larger rims with tall tire will help the look but cost you in wieght and then speed. I feel your pain. I would love to snag a set of adjustable coilovers but the cost is a hold back. I have money for go fast mods now. maybe springs or coilovers next.
