I just bought these BC Coilovers, now I'm nervous they might be lower quality since there's all this talk about them rattling....

Is there any fix? Does this happen to everyone? What's BC saying about this?

 

They are fine, they are great quality.

 

Some BCs have noise and some don't? I wouldn't call that normal without an explanation. Just because some may live with a noise doesn't mean its right. The BCs are great for the money, no doubt. However, don't think they should be making rattling noises. Putting a thin layer of rubber between the top and the car should not sacrifice performance. It will help in isolating the whereabouts of the noise. I couldn't live with the noise. But I am here try to assist others in resolving theirs.

 

One fix is a decent set of camber plates with a quality upper bearing.

$500-$700 for the camber plates alone.

 

Did you take out the spare tire and leave in the bolt?
Do you hear the rattling noise when going straight?

My JIC's have pillow mounts, but I don't get any rattling noise.

 

Spare tire is in and the bolt is in.

I hear it when going straight, only if the road is in anyway bumpy.

 

Anyone else?

Just preload the rear.. noise gone!

 

How many turns or in/mm did it take to preload? I tried the 7mm preload and nothing. Went to 10 and nothing. Just curious to what solved yours?

 

Mine has done it sense I installed them, my fiance says it is because of the pillow mounts... so it must be normal.

 

Yes, the noise is the pillowball mounts, i preloaded like 7mm and it fixed it for the time being, but the noise is back..

 

It's the metal on metal from the upper mount that makes the noise. If it had a rubber upper mount - it would isolate it.

I've had Tein Type Flex, Megans, BC Type BRs and Ohlins which make the clunking sound in the rear. I don't like it but I just ignore it now.
