General tire Poll

Just trying to get some opinions on tires. If everyone could chime in on tires they have used and what they felt about them. I have used Bridgestones in the past, both S-03 and RE050's on my STI (Yes I have been converted). Pretty happy with the Yokahama's. Most of my driving is street with occasional track to give you all some background. If you could give me some opinons about the below list:

Bridgestone Potenza RE050
Michelin Pilot Sports
Toyo Proxes T1R
Nitto NT555
BF Goodrich GForce

I know there are probably better tires for the track, but when I start spending more time there, I will invest in a DOT Track tire and some wheels that I can just switch out as neccessary. Thanks for the help!

I have the Toyo's and they are soft. I have to run my pressures at 42 front and 40 rear to get them to handle anywhere decently. In your list you have Ultra high performance and maximum performance tires. The latter are grippier but wear faster (like the OEM tires). Examples of max category tires are the Michelin PS2, Goodyear Eagle F1, Bridgestone RE050, Yokohama Neova and Advan Sport. The BFGs, Nittos, Toyos, and most of the other lower cost tires are UHP category tires. For most folks, UHP is good enough and cheaper on the pocketbook.

I would look into the Bridgestone Potenza RE01R's and the Dunlop Dirreza Z1's.

I'd pick the Bridgestone RE050's among the choices given. The RE050A's are the tires used on the Enzo BTW and they ride very quiet and quite sticky in the cold as I replace the Goodyear F1 Supercars on my Ford GT w/ these and am very very happy with them.

On the SRT4 i ran the stock KDW and those were awesome for traction, but are pretty loud.

I replaced those with Fuzion Zri and i loved then, while not as grippy as the KDW they were a hell of lot quieter and good performance. I would say about 90 to 95% grip the KDW have.

Had a Sentra SpecV that had Potenzas and those were real nice tires very sticky.

I am curious about what you mean by "soft" Arn't good performance tires supposed to be soft and sticky? Yeah they won't get a lot of miles, which means replacing them sooner, but I expect that in a performance tire. As for noise I could care less. I didn't get the car for peace and quite or I would have bought a cadilac. I wan't grip that would at 10000 miles with limited track use and normal street driving. Thoughts?

The Toyo T1R's have a very soft sidewall. It really limits the handling of my Evo. It does make for a very smooth ride when inflated to stock or near stock tire pressures. At 42/40 psi, my tire wear is even across the tread (except for the inner shoulder but that is due to my aggressive negative camber). I personally would never run them again on an Evo.
