Evo X guys and gals,

I have had a set of WORKS Ride Springs (0.9") on my car for about 5 days now and thought I would share a little review with the community.

I have been working with Jamie at WORKS (SN:Jamie @ WORKS) who has since moved back in the neighborhood, Columbus, Ohio but is still employed by WORKS. He has been my contact for the purchases I have made thus far as well as a helping had to install the parts. Jamie is a great guy to do business with and to work on cars with!

I will be honest and say I was a very apprehensive about purchasing a set of springs that were going to lower the car an equal distance all the way around. As most of us know the wheel wells in the front of the car are slightly larger than the rear so if a car is lowered equally then it may appear that the car is much lower in the rear than the front. The reality is that the car is not lower in the front, it is just an illusion. With that said Jamie informed me that through all the R&D WORKS had done they felt that lowering the car equally will allow all the suspension components to remain as Mitsubishi intended while still allowing for improved ride quality and performance.

Product: I know a set a springs is certainly not very much to look at but I will say that from just an appearance standpoint the springs looked very high quality.

Install: With Jamie’s help the install went very smooth and I would estimate it took about 2 to 2.5 hours to do. I will mention that we did cut the bump stops about ¾ of an inch.

Lowering Height: I don’t have the exact measurements in front of me but I do know that after the springs had settled the car was lowered approximately 1.05 inches.

Appearance: I can honestly say that I am thrilled with how the car looks with springs. I personally feel it is a perfect ride height for any road conditions. You can certainly tell the car has been lowered but it is not overkill. These pictures really won’t do it justice but will give you the idea.

Performance: Not really being an expert in auto-crossing or anything of that nature I will say that these springs improved ride quality a great deal. I currently daily drive my car and was worried that the springs would be a bit harsh but that was not the case at all. These springs feel great and provide strong stability going over bumps or uneven roads. I am not really sure what more of a description I can provided other than I would highly recommend these springs to anyone.

Pictures: Let me apologize for the pictures. On my computer they look great and have great definition but when I size them down to fit within the parameters of EvoM’s standards they appear very blurry. Am I doing something wrong? p.s The very first pictures is of the stock ride height while the last three are with the springs.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you guys have as I have tried to provide all the information I could but I realize I may have accidentally left some information out.

The springs were $269. The original price on the springs is $299 but I believe WORKS is offering a 10% discount until the end of August!

Hmm..now I'm really confused as to why they name them .9" springs if they lower the car more then an inch?

You can try lowering your megapixels on your camera to take smaller pics. Also, you can try photobucket(don't know if that's what you used).

Yes, I have yet to take it to get aligned but after closely looking at the car and talking with Jamie @ Works the car only has a very small amount of negative camber in the rear. We suspect that the front should be close to factory spec. Any decent alignment shop should have no problems what so ever getting this back to factory specs. I will post back when I get it aligned and let you know the results but I am not at all concerned.

To be honest I don’t have an exact answer for you so maybe someone from WORKS can chime in but I suspect the following. Everything produced will have certain tolerances in the materials used to make the product which can vary slightly and still be acceptable. I know this is the case for metals and probably many other things. In this case it maybe just a combination of all the materials used to make the spring. Take for example a car, there are some cars that will flat out make a little more power than others (on the same dyno under the same conditions). This is due a combination of all the components on the car and probably most specifically the metals/materials used in the motor etc.

I am very satisfied with not only the appearance of the car with the WORKS Ride Springs but also the performance. The car feels great and I know this is a quality product.

There are a lot of variables that will affect overall ride height and how much a car will drop with a given spring. So yes there is a bit of a margin of error when it comes to the .9" drop name, but they were designed to give a .9" drop and usually do in the majority of cases. Just to give some examples of variables: When the springs are installed overall vehicle weight may affect how the springs settle (full tank of gas, full load of passengers etc..). If the suspension components were tightened with the car on the ground vs. in the air with no weight on the suspension, or was the car rolled around a bit or bounced a bit before fully torquing the suspension components (which preloads the bushings).
Those are some of the variables, the other of course is how accurate is the measurement, and how flat is the surface you are measuring on. All in all you will find that the majority of the time the .9" Drop is accurate.
