Prodrive 18x8.5 34mm offset
Prodrive 18x8.5 34mm offset
Goodmorning fellow Evo X'ers
I thought I saw a sticky about this, but cant find it.
Im getting some tax refund money so Looking to pick up a set of used prodrive rims from a guy that has them on his IX Awesome rims, but just wanted to make sure they would fit on my X, and was also wondering if the OEM tires would still work?
18x8.5 34mm offset
By the way, I put a set of Cobb springs so its lowered a bit.
Also, what excatly does the offset mean?
Thanks!

Offset is the placement of the edge of the rim in respect to the where the wheel mounts in the hub.
For instance if you had a 18x8" wheel, and you had a 0 offset the center of the wheel would be directly in line with the face of the hub so you would have 4" on ether side.
A positive offset say +25mm or 1" would pull the wheel in an set the center of the wheel 1" back towards the inside of the car. So 5" on the inside and 3" on the outside.
A negative offset say -25mm would be the exact opposite. The lower the offset farther the wheel sticks out (deep dish).
So if you have an 18x8.5 +34 your wheel sticks out 2.95" from the face of the hub.
People typically run 18x9.5 +35 and can go as low as +17 (like our evo) 18x9.5 +35 sticks out just under an inch farther our then your Prodrive wheel so if you trying to go for an aggressive look you won't get it with those wheels. I it will look very similar to stock.

Your gonna have the same look as stock. But yes, the stock tires will work because the stock wheels are 18x8.5.
With the EVO X, I think you need atleast a +25 offset before you start to look good.

Rotas might be a possibility. They are good wheels at a great price. Some will argue the "good wheels" part (because they look almost exactly like more expensive wheels, and because they are cast instead of forged), but if your no track guy, it shouldn't matter IMO.
Just keep lookin in the show n shine forums and you will find something. Also, some of the Vendors are having great sales right now in the Vendors For Sale Forum. Good luck!

Well, I was going back n forth between rotas and volks for a long time. I decided on volks cause I got a great deal on the wheels and tires.
But just to be completely honest with you, I love my Volks but I am extremely careful (probably to the point that it would annoy someone) parking near curbs, watching out for large pot holes, etc..cause one good scratch or dent could lead to an 8 week lead time before you get a replacement wheel. But my car is a weekend car, so I hardly ever drive it, so my chances of damaging the wheels are slim. I'm no track guy either. But as a daily driver, I would go with Rotas. 900-1000 bucks for wheels is hard to beat. So with rotas and tires you might be lookin around 1500-1600 bucks, lower than half the price of volks and tires. Plus, if you damage a Rota, you probably could get a replacement within a couple of days.
Rotas vs Volks, now theres an argument waiting to happen. Yes people have and will argue over Rotas "designs" and fabrication, but that horse has been beaten and beaten and beaten and beaten to death. So I won't go there. I'll just say they both have pro and cons.
If you can get a good deal on some used or new volks then why not. I did. I bought mine to spoil myself in hopes of turning my car into a show n go type. Judges always love JDM stuff!
I have never really bought expensive wheels in my life, but I have a great STABLE job, so I felt like buying them. You only live once, and you make money to spend money!
Its really up to you and the direction you want your car to go.

Thanks so much for the insight. I am so on the fence with these rims. I am thinking that I really want to go gold.
Would it be insane to powder coat these. I am getting a really good deal on them.
