~OEM replacements - Tire Feedback for the EVO X

Hi all, I am EVOSOUL with the Toronto Lancer Car Club, I am helping organize a group buy, I have finalized tire picks for the Regular Lancer members but I am sure the EVO X boys may need something more fitting. The tires selected for the Regular lancer are the GT Exclaim tires and the Good Year F1 All Season, both great tires and blow the OEM Dunlops out of the water. I have secured low prices for about 4 different tires but having a hard time narrowing it down to 2 and I wanted to turn this over to you *the forum to get some feedback.

I am sure there are better tires out there but the pricing of these particular tires are slashed down big time to the bone. So limit your feed back to the tires I am about to list. We are attempting to work out pricing for the brand new Pilot Sport A/S Plus tires but that is still months a head until the price gets locked in at its lowest.

Thanks in advance. Your feed back hear will shape what is selected for our Evo guys here in Toronto. I would also like to thank tirerack for building a great resource website

The tires are

1.

General Tire Exclaim UHP

2.
BFGoodrich G Force Sport

3.

BFGoodrich G Force T/A KDW

4.

Eagle F1 All Season

I wouldn't put any of those on my Evo. Lancer? Sure. Evo? No.

the main idea is a replacement to the OEM tire at the time of replacing or the special gold program that is getting underway later this year.

I am sure there are better tires rated for the track or ultra high performance, but these are the options

Hey Goofygrin, he lives in Toronto; you know the snow and ice thing, something you rarely if ever experience in Texas! Definitely needs an AS tire assuming he is going with one set of wheels.
I have just put on the F1 and used them here after this weeks 8-10" snow; I was using the X as a snow plow; tremendous grip in snow. Great tires for AS and outcompeted rest of competition in dry and wet traction for this class of tire according to Tirerack.

Later, Ken

F1's are awesome! Judging from my tires with 6k miles on them, I will be buying a set of F1's in about 4k miles.

Oh I know... but I still would get dedicated snow tires and dedicated summer tires if I chose to live in a place where snow was an issue and I was going to be driving the Evo in it.

All Seasons are too big a compromise for either extreme...

And isn't there going to be an issue for US buyers of this group buy if you are setting this up in Canada?

Get a special setup on FK452s, 615s or Star Specs in 275/35/18 and I might be interested

I have the F1s and am very impressed with them (as far as all seasons go). They have very predictable breakaway, don't squeal when they do break loose a bit (very important to me), pretty solid feel, and can still handle bad weather. Best all season I've ever run.

The only problem is they are kind of loud, but meh. If you drive an evo, then loud shouldn't bother you too much.

With all that said, I can't wait for it to stop being 12F in the mornings so I can get my summer tires mounted again

How come you didn't try for Bridgestone Potenza RE960 Pole Position A/S tires?

They are highly rated, good for 40,000 miles, and can be had for a good price.

I currently have a set on my Evo X; they're quiet, have great wet traction, and so far have proved to be great A/S tires...$852 USD installed & balanced at Firestone Car Care Center.

Ya living up here your honestly taking your life into your own hands driving in this kinda winter. both OEM tires for the EVO X and especially the Lancer are just plain weak. Last winter I rolled out a tire package for EVO owners, there was the whole get a separate set of 18" wheels put them on, but it seemed like a much better idea to just use the stock OEM rims and fit them with the winter tire alternative. It was a great success and a few evo guys came in and snapped it up, then all tires in Ontario ran out lol so if you didnt grab them early, you were left out. lol no one beleived me when i said the supply was dangerously low in ontario because of law changes in Quebec... by Mid Nov everything was gone.

To answer your questions about the other tires and other specs of tire, in order to be compliant with an up coming gold program here in Canada, our cars must stay with recommended specs of tire sizes. its something I wish i could work around but cant, only way to keep Mitsubishi still listening at the table. Finally, the prices for these tires selected are extremely cheap and the revenue generated will further shore up the car clubs funding.

These tires will also be purchased at *some local mitsu dealerships so it makes warranty claiming alot easier then the bull that people normally get with the OEM tires where Mitsu sends you to the tire manufacturer they tell you more bull and tell you to talk to Mitsubishi. Since it is a fresh install, the dealer is more on the hook directly.

Finally, this group buy is not exactly exclusive to just the Toronto Lancer club, but I make no efforts to cater to outside groups, I cant, I lack the resources at this time. Tire rack has an attractive price scheme for USA buyers. In Canada our pricing is somewhat different on tires, now that the exchange rate is gapping ever so larger. it takes 1.27 to buy 1 USA dollars. Messed up compared to a year or so ago.

F1's I hear are excellent but pricey. For a lot less money I went with a set of Continental Extreme Contacts. AWESOME all season tire with fantastic snow grip and very decent in dry and wet. I Use these for winter driving here in heavy snow Detroit. Not sur eyet what summer tires I will go with.

I'll be buying the Goodyear Eagle F1's (not AS), as they appear to be the best tire for the price and they seems to have pretty good feedback compared to others.

Potenza RE960 A/S Pole Position at Discount Tire, $204

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...w=false&cs=245

The GoodYear F1 tires aren't even a 93 series tire, they're 97's (stock Evo Yoko's are 93Y, the RE960's are 93W).

Enjoy the harsher ride & increased road noise from the F1's.

Stronger sidewall on the F1 will prevent flex in hard turns and most EVO X owners have CBE (like your Perrin), so do you think noise is really an issue? In addition, the noise is from the aggressive tread for wet traction which is superior to the RE according to Tirerack.
