coilover advice

I want to put coilovers on the car...primarily want the drop for asthetics but do not want to compromise ride comfort or handling from stock if possible.

I have read enough reviews of the springs that I don't want to go that route but don't want to spend any more money than I have to as I am not tracking the car and don't want to loose the DD aspect.

I know the KWs have gotten good reviews but am wondering if any of the other brands that are cheaper will suit me just as well considering I don't plan on tracking the car.

The brands that I know are out are KWs, HKS (not too much different on price than KWs), JIC (have heard there could be issues with customer service if there are problems), Cusco, D2 Racing, Eibach, Tein, Ksport, Megan, and BC.

IN general I have heard that the cheaper coilovers tend to be oversprung (making them bouncy) or too stiff, have reliability issues or are noisey.

Does anyone have any feedback on any of the above coilovers that you have had on an 8,9 or 10 or even another car in regards to the above issues that you could share? ??? thanks in advance

i also had megans on my IX and they were a little bouncy and they lasted like 30k miles with 0 problems.

megan and bc are made by same company and the BC are def worth the extra 200 bucks. go for them.

I installed the KW Variant 3s last week and I believe they will be the closest to stock out the coilovers listed. I couldn't believe that a coilover could be so smooth yet perform so well. Even on the softest setting the above coilovers (except KW) will still greatly compromise the stock driveability.

How much harder than stock are the KWs? Do yours squeak? Saw somewhere that someone was having that issue.

I drove the Robispec KW V3 Street version on my friend's Evo X on some public roads. I have to admit that the ride is more comfortable than the HKS Hipermax 3 I have. That said, the HKS is still more comfortable over stock... just not to the degree that the Robispec was.

Both setups are smooth over small bumps but big sharp bumps you feel more than the stock set up. You'll find this to be the case with most coilover suspension as they set it up so you won't bottom out at a lowered stance.

I can not recommend Megan or BC Racing to anyone after my experience with them on my previous Evo.

It sounds like you have a tough decision ahead. I have been dealing with the same problem and I think that this is one of those upgrades that you really need to buy the best the first time. The cheaper coil overs are not that much less and since this is a DD the risk of regretting your decision could end up being more expensive in the long run. It sounds like your thinking the same.
Good luck.

how do they ride compared to stock? Are they too stiff? Do they bounce? Are they quiet (don't they have pillow mounts?)

Mine do not squeak. Perhaps the issue that you mentioned is an isolated instance. Your question about stiffness cannot be quantified. I already explained it the best way that I can in my previous post. You cannot pass on experience on an Internet forum. The only way you will know is through personal experience, like a ride in someones vehicle that are running these coilovers. As mentioned previously in this thread, this isn't the area where you want to spare expense. You either do it properly or leave the stock suspension on the vehicle. Megan, BC and a few other coilovers that I consider "junk" should not even be an afterthought.

Thanks for the response but chill a little. Was not trying to insult your purchase but am trying to get as much info as possible before dropping the better part of 3K.

KW makes an excellent product and I would recommend them on any car (I had them on my prev. car and a buddy has them on his M6). If i were going the CO route I would be getting them too. Since I am not too concerned with tracking the car i will most likely going with just a spring set up.
