for socal, what are the prices? Just tried Glendale mitsubishi, they wanted $99. It would actually be cheaper for me to unmount my tires and switch the tpms from one set of wheels to another set lol.

In Akron, they charged 48 dollars and said they would work me a deal since I would be doing it 2xs a year.

Its total BS that dealers make this sound like its heart surgery. I found it amusing when the tech guy was trying to explain to me the process and how long it can take (up to 1 hr)... Well, it might take 1 hour to do if they include their breaks and lunch into the picture. Total BS.

In researching this, theres a tool called the Bartec Wheelrite TECH400. You aim it at the tire, it reads the new TPMS ID in 1 minute or less. then you do that for all 4 tires, and you upload to the car via OBDII port.. that process takes maybe another 10 minutes... Total billing time should be 20 minutes or less!!!!

Too bad the tool sells for $2000 or so, otherwise, id be reprogramming all the TPMS's in southern california for $20... lol

This is valuable information for you guys who might have access to a mechanic or tech with access to this tool...

I really do not mind the sensors ... BUT they must be functional! It is like having fake air scoops; what's the point?

Later, Ken

I didn't use my TPMS sensors for at least 7 months. Because i used other wheels . Then i got a new rims and installed them. I never reprogrammed the TPMS sensors, fact i even swapped the rims since i installed them, Really strangly since they on my car again , i never got the warning light.

You dont need to reprogram the TPMS senors. Thats BS! I have been switching rims back and forth and they still work. Light goes on around 20 PSI.

I just switched to summer wheels with a second set of TPMS sensors in them. Of course I'm now getting the light on the dash because this second set is not yet registered in the system. The dealer says I should haul the winter wheels/tires in the car and bring it in to service while rolling on the summer wheels. He says the charge will be about $80 to register all eight sensors, but then I'll be covered for winter and summer with no future registration needed. Anybody know if this is correct? Thanks.

LOL the dealership is BSing you and making you haul useless weight so they just get a good laugh at you. All cars are set to register and read only 1 set at a time, meaning maximum 4 TPMS can only be registered at one time. You can give 8 TPMS the same code which is true, but you got to reset the computer each time you roll on 1 set of 4. And that is where they can charge you each time you reset.

I was under the impression that the car only recognizes 4 sensors at once. So if you have sensors in two sets of wheels (8 sensors like you're talking about) you'll need to register the 4 sensors going on the car each time you swap to those wheels.

Okay, the dealer service guys just took their collective heads out of their figurative butts and confirmed that the Evo X computer will only hold info for five tire pressure sensors (four on the road plus the spare). So instead of paying $80 every six months I'm just going to live with the hassle of clearing the warning every time I start up in the summer, and put a piece of electrical tape over the tire warning light. Kinda sucks though, having a car that comes with summer-only tires from the factory, and living up here in the great white north where changing tires with the seasons is a necessity, and the damn computer can't even keep track of more than one set of sensors. I still love Minnesota!
