Advan RS - Paint Chip!
bump thread!!!
im noticing more chips on mine, eventually if it gets really bad, i want mine re-done, maybe add some hint of blue to it or something.
I wonder who could do the repainting on it? advan themselves? wheeldude? Normally it would be pretty cut and dry painting however Problem is it as advan sticker on the spoke and the word ADVAN embossed on the actual wheel.

What difference do pictures make? You've never seen a paint chip, or can't imagine what one would look like on a wheel? Basically the same size as a rock chip on your front bumper, but on a wheel instead. Some on the faces of the spokes, some on the edges of the spokes, others on the lip...
UGh! I took my car to the car wash... asked these guys if my 18x10 will be a problem and they told me no... long story short front and rear wheels got some pretty rashes.
i called a shop and they tried to quote me 150 to refinish 1 wheel! i was like wtf! im better off buying an extra wheel!
MACPSU: how much did the mobile wheel repair place charge you to fix the wheels?

It has everything to do with the quality of the paint used on the wheels.
Paint is MUCH cheaper than powder coating pricewise, which yields more profit for the wheel company. Most of the aftermarket wheels that we powder coat come painted from factory with a primer, base color, and a couple layers of clear. Never have I seen a wheel that is powder coated from factory, again it's just a matter of it not being cost effective.
I will say though, that some painted aftermarket wheels we've stripped have been pretty tough to remove the oem coating. This tells me that the paint used (primer, base, clear) is a good quality and maybe even baked on for better durability.
It all boils down to how much profit is made for X company

I want to get RZ's for my car but it's bad enough that I have to put up with the thin paint on the car, I don't wan't to have to worry about cheap Japanese paint on the wheels.

He color-matched the paint near-perfectly (if anything, his paint has a bit more sparkle to it), but nothing that's noticeable to the naked eye. I was extremely happy with the results, and was pleasantly surprised. I was definitely skeptical and didn't think it would work out as well as it did.
My one FUBAR was forgetting to ask him for a little can of paint to use for touch ups
I've got the same problem with my RZ's and my stone shots were only on the rears. After installing RA mudflaps (fronts only) I haven't gotten any new ones from what I can tell.
Btw, if anyone knows of an oem color code that matches the Advan gunmetal color that would be great.
I was charged $100 to make this look basically like new.

Just had my Advan RZ's in gunmetal touched up by them from curb rash. Came out flawless! Can't even tell anything happened. Most repairs are between $100-$150, but certainly better than buying a new wheel.
I don't have an after photo at the moment, but i'll try to snap one soon. It just looks like a brand new wheel without the "Advan RS" sticker on the one spoke. I'm going to look into having a replica sticker made up one of these days.
19x10 advan Rz's and they are chipping...i dont give a **** because they are super light weight racing wheels that have a thin coat of paint on them to help keep the weight down.
FIXED LIKE BRAND NEW! damn this guy is awesome www.RIMRESCUE.com
