Steering Wheel Sensor Calibration Needed post Alignment???

I am going to get my car aligned tomorrow at a Goodyear shop tomorrow. I been there before, did my race Eclipse. I am just need a front and rear alignment after a Swift Spring and COBB sway bar install, along with the Whiteline kit.

However, I am not sure if I need to have my Steering Wheel Sensor Recalibrated? Right now the steering wheel is a turned a bit to the left but steers straight ahead. Is the procedure to recalibrate the sensor only done at a dealership or can most alignment shops do it?

Btw going to set the alignment to:

Front
-1.5 Camber
0.00" Toe

Rear
-1.25 Camber
0.00" Toe

Thanks,

~Kris

nope you do not need the sensor recalibrate. That is for the S-AWC . So it is electrical not mechanical. If your steering wheel position is off , the wheel alignment should fix it.

I looked in the service manual 35C-256, says to do it after a front wheel alignment.

Dunno?

I didn't even know we had a steering wheel position sensor. I suppose the calibration process is to take it to Mitsubishi? I was going to get an alignment this weekend.

I've been aligned at least 20 times and NEVER done this. Don't sweat it.

I've done my alignment 6 times, and no sensor recal (never heard of that on any car). Everything's fine.

the service manual also said if you change wheels then you need to recalibrate the TPMS... Now i had my TPMS off for a good 6 months , then i put it on with the new set up god knows which order.
No problem.
Wheel aligment at least 3 times. No problem.

Sometimes they recommend stuff, to let the dealer make a living.
But i do like the fact, you actually looked up the SM.

If you will have a warning light after wheel aligment , then go to rhe dealer . The recalibration is less then 10 minutes.
They will straighten up your wheel perfectly in the middle position. And then they will connect it to the computer, after that they will do a S-AWC check + update.
Thats all. I had this procedure also already.
You got to love Rally

So dont sweat on it. It is nothing, not a major issue. But i highly doubt it you will need it.

Well I had it aligned.

Front:
-1.5
0.00

Rear
-1.2
0.00

Wheel is straight, no wander, holds great. No CEL light for the sensor.

Thank you everyone!!!

Did you use the factory hardware to get to those specs? Could you have gone with more camber?

Yeah probably could do about -2.0 maybe a tad more Front and Rear. Stock parts, as far as alignment is concerned. Minus the Whiteline kit.

Thanks, I'm getting mine done on monday and from the look of the stocker, I'll need all the camber I can get not to destroy the outside edge of my new tire.

How long (miles) did you give the springs to settle? And did you replace the front swaybar or just the rear?

I don't think this would be something that would throw a code.
It is recommended because the steering sensor is calibrated to zero at the factory. If you change the steering alignment, then the steering sensor will be a little bit off.
However minor the effects on the S-AWC, however, is anyone's guess. Probably why everyone is saying "i've had no problem". You might not be able to tell if there's a significant problem.
